Looks very EX Gokin-esque, if you ask me. With a pinch of Michael Bay thrown in for good measure.

With a pinch of Michael Bay thrown in for good measure. nooooo Fewture EX Gokin have passion and soul and alot of bad a$$ery in them this one i cant say the same it remind me of buzz lightyear i didnt even watched that lame show (Voltron Force) & honestly don't care about it or about this figure we want and need a legit well made Voltron, the MT is awesome but its not anime accurate i dont think WEB or any western company care or able to do one the right way, the vintage bandai Golion is still one of the best Golions you can find and its what 20 years old figure they are just copying it they dont think out side of the box im really frustrated about this Robot not getting its justice

OH MY GOD!!!! WHY THE f**k ARE THEY TRYING TO PUSH ONE OF THE LIVE ACTION MOVIE VERSION OF VOLTRON INTO REALITY?!!? So that they won't have to do a CG animation of that live character version, and just do a cheap Stop-Motion animation with this one. zozo-mag

Back track, Peter Cullen was the voice of Optimus Prime & Voltron Lion Force during the 80's cartoon era.
Fast track 2000's circa, Peter Cullen landed a gig in Transformers the movie franchise.
So this logically equates that we have a Michael Bay inspired Voltron Force.....lol!!! :-)

I am sure I will be pushed into traffic for saying this, but I think this version of Voltron looks badass! I am excited to see some new takes on the tired golion/anime like versions that are out there now. I am excited for the Ultimate Version and would love to see this as a combiner. The detail on this statue is amazing.
I am happy to see that WEP and Toynami are giving some license for the designers to create.
You folks are so quick to dismiss anything that isn't strictly in the aesthetic of the original, but yet you want new takes/ideas on Voltron? You can't have both....
Have you watched the Voltron cartoons lately? I can't imagine a company trying to create an anime accurate Voltron. There is so much license and inconsistency throughout the show with scale especially; what would be the baseline used???
Sorry for the rant...can only read so much negativity and then I explode. I have done it myself in the past with negative criticism on toys, but trying to have an open mind these days and celebrate change.

Now, now... you can't expect everyone to be happy to see one of their favorite characters "redesigned". Like I keep saying, companies should be original in every way. Don't take a classic and redesign it! How about making your own original character, with its own original name, and see how it goes from there... }D

Now comes the big pop question:Will ANY of the lions in this new Voltron figure form the Head? Unless it's Lego, That would be quite a challenge for this action figure. lol zozo-mag

Bandai certainly has no issue milking designs with multiple repaints of the same classic figures over and over.....like any company want/need to make money. Yet, because their Bandai, people whine but don't crucify them for being unoriginal.
They are not the be all end all toy company. But anyways back to Voltron...I never saw this cartoon and their take on the Canon; read about it. Still this figure looks like it has articulation.
I am assuming this is Toynami and not Sideshow Collectibles right???

ibchristian74, I agree with you 100% in that Bandai is not the "be all end all toy company". As a matter of fact, there are a couple of Korean companies that make Bandai's SOC engineering look primitive. Also, for example, in all the decades Bandai has been making Mazinger Z action figures, they have only been able to make a decent representation of the 1970's anime version only once... and they did not even release that figure! They are indeed unoriginal as you said. A tweak here and a tweak there doesn't count as making an original figure. It's just being lazy in my book. But back to the Voltron, it is a statue, not an action figure. However, it looks nothing like Voltron/Golion - but the maker decided to keep the name. I think that if it had never been intended for it to be Voltron, it would not be received as poorly as it has been. Voltron does have a lot of fans, and they want something closer to what they remember from the show. }D

This Voltron made me think: When I was a kid, I loved this... ... I often pulled my mom's hair trying to get her to buy me a Mego Batman figure. ( she finally obliged, and for Christmas she got me a ....Cornelius, from Planet Of The Apes. lol) These costumes blew me away when I was a kid, and I watched the show on Black-n-White TV! I couldn't wait for Halloween each year to have a Batman costume, which never happened. Everything about the original Batman TV show spins my head with such cool unforgettable childhood memories and Throw-back nostalgia. But now that I'm older, I'm seeing modern renditions of that, as These... ...and I'm enjoying these modern-age renditions. But these will never throw me back to my childhood days the way the Classics do. I just can't relate to These as a grown man with my childhood perspective. Nonetheless, I'm impressed with how the Batman character has evolved through the decades to this day. And that evolution has garnered fans along the way. This new Voltron figure is no different. It's just a name with a modern facelift of different renditions. And each Voltron age is embraced by its fans of different generations. at the end of the day, Old-school Voltron/Golion fans are gonna stick to their favorite; the same way fans of the new Voltron cartoon series will stick to Their Voltron modern-age renditions. It's no Love Loss. zozo-mag
