You said it best Zo-zo. I think we are from relative time periods in regards to childhood memories of these toys and shows etc...
However,my fond memories of watching the Voltron cartoon did not match up when i bought the series a couple of years back. Disappointed to say the least. The oversimplified story that really didn't make sense, the same old battles every episode. I would welcome a new Voltron story with depth and characterization. The new Thunder cats and MOTuC cartoons a few years back breathed new life into those simple 80's cartoons with themes and depth that my adult brain identified with.
My point is that evolution of toys and new takes on what is considered Canon can be healthy for a toy line. I never saw this cartoon that this contentious statue is a part of, but I do appreciate this rendition howeever far it strays from the source material.

Bandai certainly has no issue milking designs with multiple repaints of the same classic figures over and over.....like any company want/need to make money. Yet, because their Bandai, people whine but don't crucify them for being unoriginal. They are not the be all end all toy company. But anyways back to Voltron...I never saw this cartoon and their take on the Canon; read about it. Still this figure looks like it has articulation. I am assuming this is Toynami and not Sideshow Collectibles right??? i dont see any thing wrong with milking perfection a good sculpt and a good engineered figure, its kinda frustrating im with you but as long as there is fans support that and will get it why not at the end of the day its like what you said companies and profits but with Toynami they know the sculpt engineering have issues and still release a new versions of it with the SAME issues & same QCs i have two Toynami voltrons the 25th anniversary plastic metallic version and the 30th anniversary edition, the plastic version is holding its weight better than the diecast version but both share alot of the same QCs and the same floppiness the Toynami ultimate voltron is kinda first step to drop that beat up sculpt and do something new, i also think they will do a diecast version of it (maybe) and i think you watched the dub version ? which wasnt good at all, honestly in my opinion as an adult you cant watch it, so i watched the original Japanese version which is way better than the dub version, if you liked the dub version you will love the original show

I never watched the original show and I know the U.S. version is butchered, dumbed down and fundamentally different, but still doesn't hold up to today's story telling methods with adult geared cartoons.
But back to this Lion Force Voltron...I am surprised to see WEP/Toynami giving license to a third party to create a licensed producct of Voltron, unless they don't have the rights to this version because this would fall under Mattel's umbrella?

There is nothing wrong with updating a story, adding depth to it etc. but sometimes that ends up as simply attempting to ride off the fame of the original IP's name and apply it to a grossly inferior product. One is left with the impression that the creator of the new property somehow failed to grasp the heart and soul of the property he was mimicking. Batman evolves because those who own and control Batman keep the core in place so the fan can see something recognizable in Batman. It's not just some new dude in a Batman suit. (And any attempts to do that failed badly.) this new robot design looks like some other robot property that has been painted up in Voltrons colors. The problem is not that it is new. It's that it does not ring true for the heart and soul of what it is seeking to be.

well since the subject is interesting i wanna share with you this points there is 3 main voltron shows the main one that we know and love (most of us lol) which was so very awesome through the 52 episodes then after that it was all WEB and even its the same robot and the same characters its wasn't as good as the Toei and there is the Voltron Third Dimension which was a disaster in my opinion and the last show is Voltron Force (which was lame even by kids standers) the first show had a good story a good plot and a good characters designs which was lacking in both of the other shows the Voltron Third Dimension the story wasn't good at all and the designs wasn't the best the Voltron force was another try to make a new Voltron but for me i didn't like it,its so childish and the voices was terrible and Voltron looked more like buzz lightyear or a guy wearing a suit so for me personally i cant relate to the new shows by any chance i didn't include Dairugger or Albegas because they are not Voltron now back to the topic (but your are welcome to continue in the side topic) this is a statue not a figure but honestly it look good, i see the mistake every toy maker do is they try to give Voltron a human face forgetting he is a robot first

Looking at this rendition of the Lion Force Voltron, certainly appears they did away with the child like look of the cartoon. The lion heads look bad ass...check out those fangs!
Anyways, there are couple of more pics of this figure from the Sideshow Collectibles SDCC 15 booth. Found them on Google search.

I thought the newer Voltron from the new cartoon looked like the Trendmasters Stealth Voltron. This figure shown here is kinda cool and different. I would love to see it as a combiner too. My heart will always be with the original blocky Golion and the Masterpiece Voltron, but nothing is wrong with a new twist on a legend robot. Much like Mazinga, it has like what 50 versions haha.
