I have never seen or heard such a thing. But one just sold on ebay where red and green lions tails are gold. That is just crazy. Is that for real?

Yup. Super duper rare. I have never seen one either, until I saw that one. Honestly though, I think it looks atrocious.

It did look fugly. Have no idea why they would do that. I thought I was pretty good on golion and voltron variants but looks like I was wrong. I have many golion and voltrons, thinking of thinning my collection and just keeping one.of each.

I hear where you're coming from, but in my opinion, I don't think it's worth it. If you really like golion/Voltron etc. then it's fine to have so many.
Ultimately they are the same toy with more or less features/accessories between the regular variants and bootlegs.
I have decided to keep two godaikin golions currently and sell my all matchbox releases. I've had Taiwan lionbots, a Korean one here and there as well. I don't care for them.
The only thing I may do in the future is if I find a chrome tail/chrome joint popy for a good price I may buy that for lion mode display only.
While I agree that Golion is still one of the best looking and self contained vintage DX robots, the lion mode has become my favorite over the past few years as different versions have passed in and out of my collection.
