Takara LG-31 Fortress Maxmus
Was no one here aware of this important upcoming release?! I was so surprised to have this off my radar, nor see any mention of this awesome 2 feet tall Fortress Maximus remake on here! Just saw this listing by accident searching for something else, and man, did it made my day! Metroplex was good, but it was no Fort Max, which was my ultimate big size TF to add to my collection. And here it is!
Apparantly, this is a retooling/reusing quite a bit of Metroplex's parts (mostly the limbs) and re-engineering it into a brand new titan class Fortress Maximus, with new electronics and headmaster gimmicks. A US release as well as a SDCC variant will be released in the coming month or so, then followed by the more anime accurate TakaraTomy version in September. US release most likely will be quite a bit cheaper than the Japanese version. And shipping for this guy is going to cost an arm and a leg. So ordering from Amiami or HLJ may not be the best choice. I would suggest compare which version you like best and don't wait too long to preorder one. So looking forward to this, as I have been waiting for more than a decade for a huge updated Fortress Maximus and kept passing on all the previous reissues. This is definitely the perfect remake that I have been waiting for. So excited!!!
Takara LG-31
Comparison between US/ SDCC/ Takara
SDCC ver. with minor color changes and exclusive sword. Though there is a good chance Takara's will also come with the sword.

I hope we get comparison photos with Metroplex soon to see its full grandeur.

There seems to be lots of promising items in the Titan returns line. I got the see these in person at not con. Certainly this and a few others I will get. The recent news is the power master prime will be different than the hasbro headmaster version.

Shipping for this beast is going to cost a pretty penny...I'm hoping he goes down a bit more and then will try to purchase; one can never have enough oversized giant robot toys.

Hmm, not much love on this big guy huh? Don't see much discussion going on here. Thought Fort Max was a big deal (literally). I am mostly retired from any regular TF line, except MP related ones. But this Fort Max is a must have for me. Might pick up a couple new Headmaster figures if I see something I really like. Which makes me wonder, is it because its no MP/3rd Party high end item and lack the draw from folks here on RJ? Just curious, since I only saw a handful of us replied.

It's that 3rd party transformer figures are more interesting to me nowadays, I rarely care about mainstream official TF figures unless I can snatch one at a very cheap price. I don't know how it happened, but official TFs are way overpriced where I live, and I'd rather spend my hard earned money on 3rd party products that cater more to my interest instead of releasing retool after retool of existing figure.

The vintage G1 version is considered by many TF collectors as their holy grail. Thing is, the collectors on this forum are more focus on SRs and classics SRs. Whether one buys the SDCC version or Takara version, can those not consider as high end items? They are pretty pricey, priced like an high end item. Perhaps not as complex as Mp's or some 3P product. But, even the Local Hasbro version isn't cheap. My only reason for not buying this is because it's too big and Fort Max along with the Headmasters are TF characters that I don't remember much. Titan size is the reason I didn't buy Metroplex. Got takara's version of Titan Class Devastator still sitting in box with no where to display it.

No desire to just display the individual constructicons? I mean, that's the real draw of the Takara version after all.

After seeing the robot mode for the head I think I want the takara version.

- The flip out waist cannons look good, but realized they don't really flip or stored anywhere during transformation, so pretty much just a clip on for looks during robot mode. - The add on shoes with ankle hilt is good. Not the best looking shoes, but its very functional and you can probably keep them on for good. Bummer that it is not the same set as the cannons.
Some good ideas, but not ideal when they got parted out into 4 different sets, and I only feel like I want a couple of the add-ons. They fetch a pretty high price too.
The figure itself is fun. Simple blocky guy that can be man-handled with simple transformation. Love the sounds on Takara's with authentic voices and better effects (even has a short intro music). It also has some slight retooling that it is sturdier than my Hasbro Metroplex with joints clicking harder and there is a single small click on the crotch that let it do a more natural A-stance without spreading too wide that is not present in Metroplex's crotch. It has a couple drawbacks like loose joints on the head figure, loose flipdown forehead cover, and the lack of functionality on some moving parts since they were designed for Metroplex in the first place. But I am very happy with it regardless some shortcomings.

I agree with all of your assessment. I wish the waist cannon can transform to store itself, but it's not the case. You have to unclip and store them on the back. I think the upgrade I'm really looking forward to are the ankle tilts and upgraded thigh ratchets. I've seen video reviews where the figure leans backward because either poor weight distribution or too much play on the rachet joints, and I hope the new ratchet fix the issue. I also look forward to the combined rifle upgrade - it would definitely improve the figure's cool factor significantly.
And while the sets are kinda pricey, I attribute the cost to material price for being kits for such a big figure. I absolutely can't wait - tracking indicated that he just got discharged from the customs office. Should be making way to my house before the weekend.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. After checking out the upgrade kits more, I might go for the Hands & Cannon set. Improved 3 things that I favored the most (adding the cannons, slimming the head, improving the feet of the head bot), while the articulated hands are a bonus. We'll see. As for the ankle tilt slippers and hip ratchet gears, you'll have a better judgement when you have the figure in hand. Ankle tilt is nice, but since Fort Max has no proper ankle, the tilt will only give you more degrees of A-stance than really posing. And the thing is so big and heavy, action pose is not one of its strong point, even with the upgrade. Once you have it, then you can see if those upgrades will add to your enjoyment. I just pose my guy on carpet floor, so that helps.
