While I'm not writing him off I'm going to take a seat back and watch. While the lions themselves look incredible Voltron just doesn't do it for me. Its just too slavish to the orginal Godakin toy. What I think we all wanted was the pic below. I think they've been slavish to both actually - that's the exact pose they're doing in the promo shots: Actually surprised myself how similar it is! I also had a look at the cartoon - heaps of screens here voltarchive.animation-web.com/ - and he does have the thicker, boxy waist in a lot of scenes as well. I'm really warming to it actually. This is the first time a Voltron toy has got the chest and wings correctly sized and aligned, to really show off that V shape. It looks very much like it'll fit in with the other combining SoC's aesthetically.

Yeah, if you look at him from that angle it doesn't look bad. However, the front view tells a different story.

I think it looks great and cannot wait to get him in my hands. I haven't been this excited for a SOC in a while.

While this is obviously not exact and there are a bunch of things to account for like angles and the way they're posed, etc, SOC voltron actually looks pretty close to the illustration. Outside of the lion legs being visible on SOC and the cartoonish proportions on the illustration, most of the details match up pretty well. One thing I would say that they might want to work on if they want to get really close is the face. The SOC jaw and chin are too angled and sharp.

That face looks almost exactly like the old Godaikin/Matchbox face, with the slim jaw line and shape of the eyes. In fact the general proportions look almost like the old figure with just better articulation.

From Amazon website. Looks like western version will come with additional sleeve with Voltron logo. Something to keep in mind when ordering.
"Voltron, defender of the universe returns! the single best-selling character in the history of the chogokin series is back with amazing posability and, of course, the ability to break down into five Lions. Also includes an optional screaming face to replicate battle scenes! the 270mm tall die cast figure comprises the red Lion, green Lion, blue Lion, yellow Lion, and black Lion, and accessories include the large sword and twin smaller swords plus a variety of other weapons. Includes a stand. Packaging for Western markets comes with a special sleeve that features a larger Voltron logo, while the package underneath features the go Lion logo more recognizable in asian markets."

Took some pics. It's nice. But not amazing nice. The Toynami EX may give it a run for its money.

Both will offer free shipping and same price tag, but I think I'll go for Amazon just in case if there's something wrong with the package etc... I forgot about the taxes I'll wait on toy source.

Only good preorder from there if they have a good discount and price adjusted while your preorder is on file. Also, don't expect very good shipping package from Amazon. I bought a couple gokins from them and they barely have anything protective. Just a couple bubble pillows to fill some space, and my gokin boxes were sliding around inside the shipping box the whole time. Not to mention other times have some dinged up DVD sleeves.

Placed an order on Amazon since I have a $30 gift card that's been sitting there. That at least covers the tax and takes off a couple of bucks. Also used my amazon prime store card that'll get me 5% cash back along with free shipping. All in all, it'll save me $20 off the list price. Not much but still good.
