Hi, I got into collecting chogokin last year after re-discovering my childhood Combattra and branched out into non-Popy chogokin with mixed results. I say that because buying things online can be hit or miss sometimes but it seems that actual stores with vintage robots are tough to find in my area (Miami). (Though while I was in Paris last year I found the Lulu Berlu shop and if you ever get the chance you should check it out, its amazing! www.lulu-berlu.com/)So to the point of my thread: I recently got the Takatoku Ipattsuman Ippatsu Gasshin Gyakutenoh set on auction: www.toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/takatoku/images/page2files/ippatsugasshin.jpgAnd I was also looking to get the similar set for Sankan Oh "Mammoth Box": www.toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/takatoku/images/page2files/mammothgasshin.jpgBut I haven't found one for a decent/affordable price so I settled on the DX Sankan-Oh: www.toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/takatoku/images/page2files/sankanohDX_box.jpgAnd sadly, I'm disappointed in both sets because of the limited die-cast in them. I can say the same about the GoShogun DX from Takatoku... almost all plastic. So while they look cool they just don't have the proper feel and heft I like. I'll probably sell them in the near future... I stayed away from the STD versions because I like the transformations and big box sets, but maybe these have the real metal content and proper chogokin feel?? Can anyone provide guidance on the Takatoku robots above as to which versions have the most metal? I'd prefer to stop learning the hard way. Thanks!

Takatoku it really depends on the figure. I would say regardless of size, expect 25-50% diecast. Some figures like the DX irongear are pretty much all plastic. I bought the mid-size irongear (not the ST) on a whim and it also had much more plastic than I expected. I do have a takatoku DX gattiger (vehicle toy, not a robot) that has a decent amount of diecast for the design.

Thanks, I recently got some more Ippatsuman figures so I can say the following: The ST Sankan Oh is better looking and feels more solid/heftier than the DX Sankon Oh (not the same as the one in Gasshin set with Mammoth, this one transforms into a tank). The colors are much more vibrant on the ST and the red and gold is better. The DX seems to only have some metal in the legs, the rest is plastic. Makes me wonder if the DX was actually made in Japan... Regarding the Ippatsuman Gyakutenoh - I recently got the DX Black -- wow! It looks awesome in reality, better than in the photos! Its also about as heavy as the bigger Gasshin version... the Gasshin version is kind of a let down for me. Even the head on the DX looks better than the Gasshin version in my opinion. Maybe some day I'll pick up the ST version of this figure but I think the DX is enough for me. The other Takatoku figures I don't have more than one version for comparison, but The Daikengo ST is about 80% metal! It's slightly larger than Popy's Battle Fever J figure so it's big for a ST. GoShogun DX -- didn't like it at first but now its grown on me... very big and good looking but 80% plastic, just metal in the back of the legs. Hands down my favorite Takatoku is Big Dai X Blitzkrieg version. Good metal content, great transforming gimmicks and it looks awesome (and it has the spinning blades of death! lol)

Minor update: Seems that the ST Sankon Oh is also heavier than the DX Ippatsuman Gyakutenoh. If you want real chogokin then the ST is the way to go in this line.
