Every time I was billed by HLJ, the paypal invoice was in my default currency for some reason, but when I actually set my paypal to pay HLJ's invoices in yen, I got an error instead. The reason I wanted to do that was so I could avoid paypal's currency conversion (since it's slightly adjusted from the actual rates to favour them), but I could never get it to work. This just pretty much confirms that you could never pay them in yen in the first place.

thanks for the feedback guys according to google GoInterpay is a multi-currency conversion and settlement service that connects with your existing website eCommerce technology. We enable you to show pricing and settle purchases in the local currency of the international shopper at competitive exchange rates. i think i need to read more about it and to learn how to put favorite currencies in my PayPal as well lol i just keep forgetting about it

This just pretty much confirms that you could never pay them in yen in the first place. You invoice from HLJ should be in Yen. Paypal will be whatever money back to Yen, that's where the currency conversion fee comes in. When pay by Paypal you have 2 options. 1- Pay with their conversion rate (which they try to be sneaky, will show you the rate before your confirmation ) 2- Pay with your Creditcard/banks conversion (which will not show anything and it will be in yen or whatever the invoice is at ) Option 2 is what you should use if you have a credit card that offers FREE conversion or ZERO currency conversion, or NO Foreign transaction fee . To preset that on your paypal account if do use one of those Creditcard ( does not seem to work for Discover Card) Main page (My account - Overview) Click on the Settings Icon (upper right) to view your Profile Go to "Payments" tab Under My Preapproved Payments (bottom left), click "Manage Pre-Approved Payments" Click on Set Available Funding Sources Next to your credit card there should be a link for "Conversion Options". Click on that. Select Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice. Submit and Save changes But even with that you still have to check when you pay because sometimes they will change it for you for whatever reason, (wink wink) If you see NO conversion rate chart $$$ = Yen , then you're good. they will just bill your creditcard the yen listed and your creditcard will take care of the rest. (which is normally around 3.5 % cheapers than if Paypal were to do it for you) Even if you have not preset that above you should still be able to change that by clicking on the blue linkable "conversion rate chart $$$ = Yen" right before you finalize the payment. I forgot the exact words but that one you want to select will be similar to "Bill me in the currency listed on the seller's invoice." Once you do that you will no longer see the chart "conversion rate chart $$$ = Yen" and your payment should be all yen. You can try that next time, if you run into any issues, do a screen capture / remove your personal info and we can check what when wrong.

However, the paypal checkout window? No yen in sight. And I've been doing exactly what you described; paypal has buried the setting for default currency vs invoice currency deep in it's system so you can't change it too easily, but whenever I set it to "invoice currency", I couldn't check out on HLJ, it just gives me an error. For whatever it's worth, the error page is from HLJ, not paypal.

I havnt recieved any invoice from hlj after the switch to gointerplay so i cant compare their exchange rate vs visa exchange rate. I hope they dont force their rate on me. I have a DX chogokin from them later this month so well see then. But for all my international purchases i would pay in their currency when ever possible.

I slept on this one Are there other reputable vendors where I can still pre-order this, preferably with no advance payment? Or should I just wait for BBTS to get their stock?

Ack...you can get one from Anime Island for $180 after the usual discount and free shipping. But you pay upfront and have to pay tax for South Cali bros.
Oh and you get about month later then the most

Cd japan takes upfront payment... right ? as far as I know if you used paypal and debit card yes they charge full amount. if its a credit card they charge when the item is released but they have to authorize the full first when you make your order. www.cdjapan.co.jp/guide/help/faq/faq_credit_debit_cards#3( =>If you pre-order an item, you will NOT be charged until the item is released. However you will need to have the total amount in your account in order to receive authorization. Debit Cards & PayPal Debit cards & PayPal are processed immediately when the order is placed. )
