In a previous thread on Takatoku chogokin I was comparing the metal/plastic content and currently have the ST and DX version of the Sankan Oh mech. I don't have the Gasshin DX version that combines with the mammoth, so anyone who does have it feel free to tell me how it compares in reality to the ST and DX.
Disappointingly, the Sankan Oh DX chogokin looks "cheaper" than the ST and its in large part due to the colors. The gold is not as yellow and there are more stickers than plating. There are no red details, the plastic wings are a brownish maroon and the plastic on the triggers, missiles, and the piping below the "nipple guns" is a "meh" tan (the piping is gold on the ST). And frankly the transformation into the tank is pretty banal at best... the horns on the head drag on the ground. The only cool thing I discovered about this chogokin is that I can insert the gun between the legs in the correct slot in robot mode and it transforms into the "me so horny" mode... (what a pun! horns on the head... get it?!)
You can see the different versions here: www.robotvintage.com/article/Sankan_oh.html
And so I thought that was all there was to this story until I noticed the catalogue leaflet that comes with the DX... there in all its technicolor glory is the same DX version with the correct color scheme and detailing as the ST and Gasshin DX! And a photo of the same Sankan Oh in the tank mode!
So, question to all the long-time collectors: Have you seen this DX version with the proper Red and Gold trim and color scheme?
I doubt mine is a knock-off since it has the Takatoku catalogue and labeling on the box.
Any thoughts on what happened?
