Hi, I recently was looking at getting the Baxinger chogokin, I have the Takatoku STD and I like it. I noticed that there are a lot of knock-offs of the DX version and since the a Japanese set costs more (and its not high on my priority list) I thought I'd look at the KOs. I settled on one called "Motor Jumbo Convertible Fighter" over the "Mustanger" because it had the same color and blue trim on the head as the Takatoku.
It arrived today and it looks very nice and pretty close to my eyes as the Japanese Takatoku DX. Even has same missiles etc. This one is made in Taiwan and I think Takatoku had some production there because my Sankan Oh DX was made there...
But was I surprised because the Motor Jumbo is completely plastic except for tiny wheels! I thought it should have a little metal somewhere...
So it that also the case with Mustanger and the Takatoku Baxinger DX? No metal?
Thanks!

The real DX has metal. The bootlegs do not. Other than that the toys are pretty much identical.

HI, that Convertible Fighter set is pretty cool, has good shelf presence. I'll open my Takatoku soon & give a rundown of metal parts. I haven't had that set out in a long time so woul be fun again

Ok, pulled the Baxinger DX set out, and it has some weight, but less actual body parts diecast than I had thought.
The front half of the main body is diecast metal.
The other parts have what seems to be weighted metal plates, inside of the plastic outer housings, not actual diecast body panels, as such: Inside each foot, there is a weighted metal plate, to keep stability. Inside the white thigh/waist connector piece, is also some metal plate weights.
The arms cycles do not have any weigths, or diecast panels.
It's a bit of an odd way to design, with the internal, hidden weight panels, except for that main body half. Why didn't they do more diecast outer panels?
BTW, the Baxinger comes in the box, mostly assembled as the robot, similar to the KO sets. This is also a bit different than typical DX briefcase set layout. Most have the individual parts in the tray, which you then put together. So with Baxinger you have to take him apart, to have the fun of reassembling, LOL.

Thanks! It seems that the main difference with this Taiwan Tai Fong Toys KO "Motor Jumbo" is the diecast chest... the KO is all plastic but it has the metal weights in the white plastic legs. I have to say its a pretty decent KO and the face and colors are better than the "Mustanger" KO.
I have the Takatoku Baxinger ST and I like it better than the DX. The upper thighs are chrome metal which looks better than the white plastic on the DX (otherwise its mostly plastic except for the chest). Its also a "beefy" looking standard thanks to the wide arms whereas the DX Baxinger/Motor Jumbo is a little small for a DX.
Of course the DX transforms into motorcycles but it has a lot of leftover pieces lying around. Anyway its a an odd chogokin, a bit like the Pentabot.
