I think I'm going to pass on this. So far the only improvements they announced are the head, shoulders and paint. This mold needs way more improvements. The ratchet joints, hips, tarnishing sword to name a few. Heck Baikanfu has way more improvements (head, hips, more diecast, shoulders, paint). And the msrp on that is 25,000 yen vs Dancouga 27,000 yen?!! How did that happen?!! I don't understand why Bandai doesn't make a brand new Dancouga. So unlesss Bandai makes more improvements to this mold, it's an easy pass for me.

The original Gx-13R was an event exclusive and had matte gray finish, even the sword was matte. So its still got its seperate sense of value. Yellowing on the original Gx-13 appeared on some units on the biceps and thighs where white plastic was used. It didn't happen to everyone's units. It was a thing that happpened mostly to displayed units and even then not all displayed units had this problem so I guess it could be due to lighting and/or temperature conditions. The biggest problem with the Gx-13 was the use of a clear block of plastic for the internal hip joint. Clear plastic tends to become brittle faster over time and considering how heavy Dangougar is from the wasit up, this can be a tricky problem. Plus to transform the torso unit to mammoth mode, it involves slotting the hip joint segment around and locking it in place. Possibly stressing the plastic further. I really hope the new version addresses that last problem. There's also some speculation that with this release Bandai might actually roll out the Black wing to combine with this guy, forming the Final Dancougar (never appeared in the Anime though, unit crashed, pilot died) there was a protoype of the Black Wing shown years ago at one of Bandai's events (concept case display), that combined with the Gx-13 (wing mode only shown though). I'm pretty sure the R will just stand for a re-color, not a renewal. GX-13 with all its shortcomings was one of my favorite SOC, but over the years mine has turned into a yellow mess :/ What yellowed on it? That's not really that normal for modern plastics. Especially not import stuff. The yellowing isn't a result of "Plastic Quality", it comes from the Bromine Flame Retardent additive that they have to put in childrens toys and electronics. SOC's don't actually need BFR's? They aren't really categorized as toys, but more adult collectables. Much the same as Model Kits (which don't require BFR). All the grey colored plastics - wing, elbow joints, thighs, elephant head. Looks like I was wrong about the R standing for Recolor - looks like it's getting a new head sculpt.

With Baikanfu I prefer the way the SoC looks over Sentinel, but this one's definitely the other way around. The Sentinel has a nice amount of chunkiness to it, especially in the pelvic region, where the SoC just looks awkwardly gangly.
You can't even pose the cannons on the booster!

Wasn't the reason for the yellowing because they didn't mix the mold properly or something? That is why is it susceptible of discoloring easily? I think I read it somewhere before, can't really remember. The SOC's I have haven't had this problem at all. Anyhow, I am so waiting for this. Missed it before and glad I did lol Now this one I am getting it on Oct. I also hope they fix Ideon's issue for the revival version. That's another one I want to get.

Granted GX-13 is a dated design but it is a classic. I remember when it first came out it was spectacular, it has aged pretty well IMHO. Also we have to remember these are re-issues to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the SOC line. It's like being able to buy a brand new 69' Camaro from the factory today with all it's "quirks" but with modern tires. I'm pretty sure if Bandai wanted to they could design a new Dancouga that would blow the pants of the Sentinel version, but that's not the point of these RE-ISSUES.

Dated or not...I never got him and I would be very happy to get this version for my collection. He is one of my favorite Super Robots and frankly I don't think Bandai is going to do a bad job with this one. I hope it meets our expectations if not exceed them.

i can confirm the GX-04S got this problem as well, most of the people i know report this problem the chrome parts become yellow with time even the Marine Spazer cutter become yellow with time, with the chrome its an easy fix but with the Marine i didnt find a good solution yet thats why we need a new Grendizer in the SOC line

With regards to the original Gx-13R, I read somewhere that Bandai acknowledges there might be some confusion about it but their explanation is that the first Gx-13R should've been and from henceforth will be renamed as Gx-13RC (for Real Color). And that this is the true Gx-13R (for Renewal). No idea how true that statement is so best take it with a grain of salt. What bugs me the most about this is that, as great as the Gx-13 design is, I would've liked a taller Dancougar. He would look better if he were a bit taller in this renewal. Gold

Cool...I have original but I'm inclined to get this as well. I always thought discolored parts were just way it is when I got it. At least it appears uniformly discolored on same body parts on both sides. Definitely it would suck if one side was discolored and other wasn't then I couldn't live with that. I passed on Baikanfu-R but this one I'll most likely pick up. Certain characters I don't mind have doubles like Daitarn-3 which I ve both versions.

Hmmmm, Now that you've said it, I'm starting to think about this release as well, he just looks like the original release and Im quite happy with my Sentinel and with the price of 27K yen, he is not cheap. Still on my radar though but not a sure purchase now, have to wait for some news about it about what Bandai has changed, improved, etc (Can see its a new headsculpt) Still happy for the guys who are sure in for this and have been waiting for it

Yeah. I am going to skip out on this renewal. Not enough fixes to the old mold to make it worth $70 more than the original price. I really wished Bandai went with Ideon or Combattler V instead.

I'm still happy with the original release, but it's a good thing for those that wanted it a good price I agree, instead of paying the insane secondary market prices, might as well give your money directly to the source (Bandai)

This is one of my all time favorite SOCs. I have the original. I really want the GX-13R version. And now I want this new GX-13RC (I hope this is the real name of this latest release and not the repeat of GX-13R).
