Totally missed this series and was only aware of it after seeing the Donald Duck Kingdom Hearts SH Figurarts at Barnes and Noble. I picked up this figure over the weekend at a toy show in San Jose. There was really nothing I wanted to buy at the show, was only looking for that G-Creation IDW style Prowl and Toy Arena didn’t have any. So, I walked around for a couple hours before settling on buying this Kingdom Hearts figure. It looked nice inside the box.
So I open it up yesterday and prior to doing so, I watched a bunch of reviews about it. Most of the reviewers on YouTube like this version of Sora over the Bring Arts version by Square. Overall, the articulation and sculpt of the figure is awesome. Looks really good but It’s not without flaws. There’s a lot more paint apps to this figure versus other SH figuarts that I’ve owned. Well cause the only other SH Figuarts that I owned are from the DBZ series. And with those, there isn’t much painting required. This Sora figure, there’s lots of belt buckles and small trims etc... just lots of details that requires paint. And while the paints is nicely applied to he majority of this figure, there still way too many paint imperfections. Bottom line is I feel the QC could of been a little better. Perhaps I didn’t get a good copy, hard to say. But there’s a bit of paint bleeding from small parts. Silver color paint bleed from the buckle in the inner part of the shoe, the yellow belt pads on the upper part of the jacket is kinda light. The gray trims on the end of the jackets is also not perfectly applied. Anyway, QC could be better cause I placed it next to my Figma Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Link and the Figma figure is just flawless. The paint app on even the small details parts on Link figure was perfect. So in comparison, I feel as in Bandai could and should have the ability to do the same quality. Additionally, the joints on the Figma figure also moved a lot more smoothly vs this Figuarts. Also, one reviewer pointed out that the face looked weird up close. It’s cause the way they printed the eyes on the face and how’s it’s not painted like traditionally how it was done. The eyes looks kinda pixelated, it’s weird in that you have to see it person. I actually like this printed look. It’s only looks bad if you hold the figure up to the face 6 inches away. Looks fine otherwise.
