Just browsing and a mention of bootleg cyborgs reminds me of one I bought and sold a year or two ago...
It was clear, soft-ish vinyl, and the cyborg innards were just printed on a card.
He had VERY limited articulation - hips and shoulders basically, but the funniest thing about him was that his body appeared to be modelled on something like a very small Tiny Tears doll - about 6 inches tall... haha.
He never stood up, he was bagged and tagged, and was made in China.
What a laugh.
The only thing funnier was that I paid $50 for him, and sold him for $300. Now that's a Merry Christmas!
Anyone else remember/have him?
BTW there used to be a pic of him on Ron Pringle's old Micropola site for info...

Hi Cybermuton, nice to see you back on the board. I think I know the one you're talking about; I think I even have a print off from that Micropola picture. If it is the one, then it's one of the cruddiest Cyborg related toys I've ever seen. I would never have dreamed of paying any money for one, but it appears you made a shrewd investment.

Funny enough - of all my mostly-sold 'borgs and related stuff, he's probably the one I miss the most.
Something about that flexible yellowed vinyl flesh, I think.
As an aside, a pal of mine just bought me a 12" re-issue of the original Cyborg for Christmas (thanks, Dave); and he also got one for my 8 year old son. It was great to see a kid actually playing with one again for the first time in like, 30 years!

Awww, that squidgy little baby-esque Cyborg knockoff appealed to your paternal instincts! Maybe if you had nurtured it, it would have grown into a real Cyborg, a bit like Pinocchio. It certainly had plenty of pathos.
Sacrilege! Those reissue Cyborgs aren’t for playing with! My kids will never get near mine…. Nya-ha-haar!

As i said on a different thread, i've got some re-issues on order. I had to buy 2 of each in order to give one to my son, If he enjoys them as much as i did as a child i'll be really pleased. Hypnotator, as you've said, we had to make the adventures up ourselves as there were no tv/cartoon tie-ins. It will be great to see some creative play for a change instead of thoughtless finger bashing on the xbox.

I'd get pretty bored playing cyborgs all by myself. My daughter is the perfect excuse to play it up. SHe's only 5 so sometimes it gets frustrating because she doesn't have a fully mature sense of realism and consistency to keep my disbelief suspended, but hey, it's a whack of fun!

On boot cyborgs, I've seen about 5 different kinds that resemble the legit product in one way or another...the thing about all boots is that they do get you laughing; especially when they're really PIG UGLY monsters ;D Owning them is like having your own modern day freak show It's kind of like that woman that breaks into nuclear reactors to collect mutant insects- she then creeps out with these deformed bugs and paints them up back at home to make them look even more freakish. Then she takes them on tour around art galleries in Europe...people actually pay to see the little freaks!! There are actual `bootcons' in Japan where the prices reach truly dizzying heights- getting $300 for one was great- I've heard of HDTS Korean 47cm Atom (with bulging head and groin) going for over 500,000Korean Won (over $500) Next week I've got `crying Atom' or `scared Atom' going up on Yahoo Japan- his face looks like he's crying or really scared- I've got big hopes pinned on that little boy...as I bought all of them I could find! Alex in Seoul

Here he is, Johnny, just so you can relax in the knowledge that this is something you don't need to collect.

Don't they have a special hospital for kids like that?

Aaaah.
Brings a tear of pure paternal nostalgia to my eye.
But I would never have let him get that near to a lighter...that plastic was such poor quality, even a whiff of a fume and he could have blown!
The really cool thing about that pic is that he's not my old one (too yellow, too twisted) . And he's not Ron Pringle's one either (ditto).
So there are at least three of 'em around.

Found him on YJ. Awww, the poor liddle guy! If we bought toys out of pity for them, he'd be a million seller. But he's the kind of toy some poor kid got bought when they wanted a REAL henshin cyborg and stupid granny didn't know the difference, leading to resentment and family grudges. If he did come to life like Pinocchio, he'd be the most picked-on kid in his school.

Granny-bought toys are a whole genre in themselves. I remember when Gameboys first came out - Brick Lane market were selling the same basic case, but with some tiny screen built in, playing something like Pong, called 'GameChild'.
Imagine the disappointment... Especially if your mum and dad held off buying the real thing because gran had told them she'd already picked one up.
Back to Cyborgs and other transparent innard human/robot toys - did you ever have Mattel's Pulsar? He looked like Lorne Green with a transparent chest. His muton-style humanoid organs were awesome though...they squished and pumped (real) blood.

His muton-style humanoid organs were awesome though...they squished and pumped (real) blood. I totally had a pulsar!!! His head opened and you put discs (maybe programs for adventures, i dont know) in it. the best part were his lazy man boots which my descriptions could not do any justice. my main problem with this toy was his pants were always slipping down to reveal his ass. so much fun though...

haha - Pulsar was great.
Mine had some kinda jumpsuit on, but the velcro kept opening 'cos he was so pumped up! He did have those boots though...
My son's still got his, but his head broke off at the hinge (Pulsar's, not my son's), but he sort of looks OK anyway. He ended up getting dressed in Atomic Man's shorts - You gotta show off that transparent chest!
I almost bought a Hypno once, but now I'm glad I didn't.

Those Pulsar were pretty rare in the UK, I think. I've only seen them once or twice in specialist shops and at toy fairs. I didn't know that one had my name! They pinched that gut-pumping ooze idea for an Action Man (GI Joe) toy recently. I've posted this picture before because of the smoked Cyborg, but is the Pulsar figure Hypno?
