18 years after MechWarrior 4, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is finally coming this December (2018). Developed by Vancouver-based studio Piranha Games (MechWarrior Online) for Windows. If OSX or Linux ports were announced, I missed the news; it seems it's a Windows PC only release so far. Given the history of the MechWarrior series, console ports are very unlikely. No news on a new sequel in BattleTech's console-side series, MechAssault, either. - Campaign mode; 4-player co-op;
- lots of mech customization options;
- full integrated Steam Workshop mod support
Hopefully, support for the old Xbox Steel Battalion controller will be a thing, official or not. I know you could use some third-party software to get it to emulate keyboards and/or joysticks, but from what I've heard from people who tried to do this with MechWarrior 4, it's not an easy task to get it to work and map all the buttons. For its turn-based strategy counterpart, see BattleTech (2018).

I had read about using the battalion controller for previous entries. I have the drivers somewhere. I hope someone makes use if it. So far I only have one game I have ever played it with.

The Rogue Mek-Fu dual "flightstick" meant for Hawken looked like a nice "spiritual successor" to the Steel Battalion controller, though not as impressive. Too bad they never released it. Their website is dead now.

That is a shame. I wanted to play hawken, but their slow development, then dropping a lot of their platforms and going FTP kept me from it. I got heavily into the first titanfall, but I didn't feel it needed a special controller.
