Hi,
I have a very good condition God Sigma DX, and one thing that bugged me about it is how dull/matte the shoulders look on the Thunder King, almost a grey bare metal finish that doesn't match the shiny chrome on the legs. Its not due to wear, it seems to be original.
Now I've found some indisputable photos that show a version with shiny chrome shoulders. So is this a variant like the Golion chrome/not chromed elbows?
Anyone else have one or both versions that can confirm what I'm saying?
Thanks!

Any idea if one is the "first version" vs "the second version"?

The way I remember it is the shoulders look like a painted silver, it has a metallic sheen overall but no metallic flake (so it appears solid in color).
I do have two boxed Popy DX versions I could get to to check out, do you have pics of the chrome looking one?

Well I saw one on Ebay and then I noticed this old post on collectiondx www.collectiondx.com/toy_review/dx_god_sigmaThey don't look to be painted silver - like on mine - it looks much more like the chrome on the legs to me...

So mine are definitely original Popy made in japan red box DX set and I will check them.
I do notice that it looks like all, or almost all of the Taiwan KOs came with the chrome arms as well.

I bought mine new, and the shoulders have a matte finish compared to the legs. I've read that the KO has shiney shoulders. But after looking at the CDX photos, Thunder King's shoulders do look kinda shiny. And it's not a POPY - it's a GoDaiKin. I don't know... maybe it's the lighting in the pictures?

No it's definitely not the lighting, the one in the CDX review is chrome.

So after double-checking the one I saw on Ebay with chrome shoulders must be a KO version because it doesn't have the Popoy logo/text on the back. It is a loose example. Still doesn't explain the CDX review though.

I saw that one on eBay as well. It's definitely a Taiwan Godbot listed incorrectly as a godsigma.
For the moment I'll chalk this up to a possible production run variant or factory change as I believe diecast metal in Taiwan was doing production for bandai as well.
I have two people I am reaching out to, one pretty much has every godsigma item you can imagine and the other is well versed in Taiwan variants. Hoping to get into my godsigmas by the weekend as I'll have some time off to do so.

My Godaikin God Sigma is brand new and has the kind of dull paint that you are describing. Definitely not chrome on mine.

From what i remember, all the original Popy and Godaikin versions have the dull/matte silver shoulders. My guess would be a few random later items got the shiny chrome treatment, as MrGinrai mentioned, the factory in Taiwan that can still crank out GodBots if needed, did some of the whole or parts of later Godaikin toys for Bandai, so likely a bit of crossover. Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

hi Repairtechjon,
Sounds like a plausible explanation, but this is one of those cases where the KO version looks slightly better with the matching chrome arms... Mr. Ginrai, any feedback from the people you reached out to?

My cali contact is getting back to me this weekend most likely. Repairtechjon was my other contact but his post beat my email, so I didn't reach out to him and you have his answer above haha.
We got the avatars from Lejam here. It was a very big undertaking on his part and he did it as a courtesy. He is very, very talented.
