Hi All,
Today I put one of my 3 Combattra's for sale and it gave me an opportunity to look closely at the differences between the earlier Mattel Combatra and later Godaikin Combattra. I do believe there are even earlier Japanese Popy version's than the Mattel/Popy (with some additional differences) but those are rarely seen here or on Ebay. At first glance you don't notice the differences but there are a lot of little details which may help people when making sure which version they are really buying or for spare parts. Since I had 2 Godaikin versions I could double-check my findings... I'll be happy if anyone else can add to this list:
#1 Battle Jet
1. The rotating plastic landing gear/ears on the Mattel ver. is a DARKer blue & the painted blue metal "studs" to the the landing gear is same "metallic" blue as the #2 & #3.
On the Godaikin version the plastic ears are much lighter and do not match the blue paint as in the Mattel ver.
2. The vertical tail plane blue sticker is slightly darker.
#2 Battle Clasher
1. The dark blue paint has more of a metallic tint to it than the Godaikin version.
2. - major difference - On the back/bottom there are 2 white painted spots/ellipses - on the Mattel version the spots are completely within RED paint. On the Godaikin version the back area is split between red and blue and the 2 white ellipses go between the two color areas/stripes.
#3 Battle Tank
1. The dark blue paint has more of a metallic tint to it than the Godaikin version.
2. The yellow turrets are a darker tone of yellow. Not sure if this is due to aging or not.
3. The #3 sticker between the plastic claws has "chrome" stripes in the Godaikin version. No chrome on the Mattel ver sticker.
#4 Battle Marine
1. The #4 sticker next to the cockpit: Mattel ver its LIGHT blue, Godaikin Ver. Dark Blue
2. The #4 sticker on the plastic tail: Mattel ver its RED, Godaikin Ver. Dark Blue
3. Hard to say for sure but the rivets in the knee joint look bigger in the Godakin versions I have
4. Just for clarity, the dark blue paint on the legs looks the same between the versions and doesn't have the metallic tint of #1,#2,#3 of the Mattel ver.
#5 Battle Craft/Kulaft
1. The plastic fin that attaches the craft to the legs: Mattel ver. BLACK plastic, Godaikin ver. BLUE plastic
Not definitive, the blue claw is different hue of blue, little more green, but this could be due to aging/sun damage.
If anyone can add to this would be great, anyway, if you don't have both copies you can look at these ebay links:
