i think the success of the GX-71 alone is more than enough to do both or even any Voltron related product Dairugger- didnt get much love stateside... why the third voltron was cancelled. Albegas- virtually unknown except as a matchbox toy the success of GoLion is the result of exposure from both east and west.. plus the show's popularity back in the 80s. if Bandai's going to do both Dairugger and Albegas.. Bandai has to gamble. Bandai: NO.. well play safe with Mazingers..

exactly who need Dairugger or Albegas, you NEED another Mazinger for sure
joking aside, i didnt know Dairugger wasnt popular in the states, but most of the collectors i know are drooling for one, for me personally i dont like it but Albegas is a different story

Voltron aired when I was in 5th grade. My friends and I watched every day after school religiously. For some reason I missed a few episodes. I'll never forget being outside, sitting on my bike one day, when my pal ran up to me, got in my face, and yelled, "Cole! There's a NEW Voltron!" But he didn't scream with excitement - it was more like panic.
I rode home as fast as possible to check it out - and I was utterly dismayed. The familiar characters and robot I loved were gone. Through fogged glasses I saw 15 confusing replacements and a bland robot that could NEVER live up to the original. No ferocious lions - just a bunch of vehicles buzzing around. It was a crushing blow for me, and just about every other kid in the States. We didn't just dislike Vehicle Voltron - we blamed him... and couldn't forgive him.
So, WEP scrapped Gladiator Voltron and produced more Lion Force episodes. It wasn't a risk they would take. Unfortunately, it's probably not one that Bandai will take either.

Got the same disappointment with the new Voltron. Even cursed it as cheap ripoff of Voltes V But eventually it grew on me. I think its because of the mind boggling 15 machines that combine into one robot as a kid wowed me... And ofcourse space exploration.. finding planets.. i always love that futuristic space plots... which is not be always a fantasy... in the future we surely will be doing it.

you dont need to sit on your bike you need another maz.... oops wrong post lol my bad i cant shake that silly joke
for me i dont like Dairugger (Vehicle Voltron) in matter of fact i feel sorry for the robot because it got ripped off of its own identity
maybe if it was aired as it was supposed to be i might try to like it, but making the whole show as a 2nd season of Voltron just killed it, it cant be compared to Voltron at all, and from the first couple of episodes it was just an epic fail to watch them scream voltron every now and then
also there is something annoying for me in the design, which is they used cars as his foot, i dont know but those cars suspension must be made of chogokin z, because there is no way they could support all that weight from the other Vehicles, i know its called all terrain space vehicles but come on
also 15 Vehicle that combine together is way to much

I have always liked Lion and Vehicle Voltron but I never liked the other Voltron. That should of never been called a Voltron.

They should have never been called Voltron. I can't even stand seeing the Bandai Super Mini-Pla model kit of Golion have the Voltron text on the box. Much more it's not even Defender of the Universe text. It's that Legendary Defender Voltron font. I hate everything about WEP, btw. I actually like Albegas more than I do Golion and Dairugger XV. Once I watched the anime and owned the vintage Albegas, my perception changed of it. I'd say a majority of those who dislike Gladiator Voltron/Albegas never even owned the vintage or bothered watching the anime. They just hate it because it wasn't mainstream or they weren't exposed to it. To each their own.

I watched a few episodes of voltron only. But I never related albegas to voltron until I started to collect and investigated more. Here in Argentina they showed albegas under the name arbegas el rayo custodio (leave opening in spanish:
It was my first mecha show as a kid (I was about four or five years old), I remember asking for arbegas toys but we have none here, my parents were crazy searching something for Christmas... it's one of my much beloved memories as a child and what got me into collecting as an adult.

and we should totally have (i hate WEP) club lol
if you watch Voltron (Go Lion) in Japanese with ENG sub you will see the night and day different between the two versions, its just better and the events are much clear and easy to understand

Its long time ago and memory is a bit vague, but I remember liking Dairugger VX (original, not Voltron ver.) quite a bit when I was very young, catching it every Sunday morning. It has a very team oriented theme, as the cast is very big and often sent out in groups as a mission. When seeing toys (especially the big one) with 15 vehicles combined, it was a marvel to dream about, though never rich enough to own one. Even though more than 3 decades later, I still remember the theme song very well in my head, even more so then Albegas' or Golion's, almost enough to sing it word for word in Japanese.
Honestly, I was a bit surprised Golion/Voltron was this popular in the US after finding out years ago. I was only mildly interested in it back then, probably because I was already exposed to a lot of super robot shows as a kid, and Golion was just one among many. Even more surprised later that Golion, Albegas and Dairugger VX are pieced together as related, under the Voltron label. Still getting used to it to this day. But I can understand Voltron's significance in US for a lot of kids back then, being the first exposure to these type of shows.

Will this [or any other Albegas release] be in scale with the Miracle Metal Works Vehicle Voltron [which is in scale with Toynami's Lion Voltron]? I'll get it if so. Anything to give WEP the Middle Finger.

Anything to give WEP the Middle Finger. This will be a little over 10.5", so scaling will be similar to vintage Albegas & GoLion. Evolution Toy's upcoming release should be about the same size, though.

Maybe if they would have worked VV into a few episodes the transition would have been smoother. I love your post. I was the same age and would come rushing home to see the new shows airing. Having a new Voltron on air was a little annoying because I was already invested with the Lions. But then as you watched the Vehicle Voltron, I really enjoyed the series. It was more “adult” to me. The stories seemed to have longer episode arcs. But I did think it was too many characters to keep track of. And with so many spieces, bad color and the need for same actors to play different characters, keeping track of who was who in which vehicle became confusing. Like you said, SADLY, just as I was starting to figure out everyone, they pulled the episodes and replaced them with the Lions again. It wasn’t until years later when I was able to watch the bootlegs, that I really came to love the Vehicle Voltron series.

I love I, II, III and Legendary Defender. Hopefully as the fanbase increases, more will come appreciate the the "other" iterations. They're all wonderful and unique.
