I am betting Gaear is just some sort of weird translation thing. They can't actually copyright "Gaia" and a Trademark while possible would need to be exceptionally limited. Do we know of any die cast collector lines or anime shows centered around a character called Gaia that the God Mars characters could be confused with? Gaia comes from Greek Mythology and is the personification of the earth. That makes it very hard to lock down as an IP. It's like trying to Trademark Thor or Hercules. Probably whoever translated the box window pane insert did it phonetically and messed it up, and nobody caught it.

Nothing really, just a guess. Considering this is the first time we see the name changed to "Gaear" instead of the usual "Gaia" that they've been using since the original Gx-40 and the mail-away figure, I kind of find this a bit surprising. You have to admit it's quite a stretch and the spelling is way out there. I'm fairly sure the name Gaia (Earth) is probably used or trademarked somewhere else, so maybe the reason for the name change? I don't see brand trademarking being a problem for the name "Uranus" though hehehehehe... and to be honest i really enjoy your reviews the ton of the information and the fun facts along with the good the bad the ugly its just right, i want you to know this your work is appreciated

Just thought I'd chime in with how my replacement request for my broken one was coming along.
Some were saying that Bluefin was great, no issues getting parts from Bandai, etc. I'm over 2 months out, still nothing. They respond to my emails at least. First they said some stuff got sent to the wrong addresses (as in, more than just me). Told me they'd try to push and it get it out by the 21st. That came and went, still no updates, emailed again, they said "We have hit an unfortunate delay in the replacements and we are looking for ways to alternate this service to be more timely to our consumers. I have placed a very important request for this item with our team to order this item asap.".
So, now I've emailed them again. Plenty of US-based online places have them in stock. Wish they'd work with them to get replacements sent out or something.
I don't have a good feeling I'll ever get any parts sent.

Here we are, and I *finally* got a replacement robot! They sent me a new middle robot. (almost exactly 3 months from my initial support request).
It required regular emailing. I was always polite, and always waited at least a few days between emails (starting with waiting like 8 weeks, then every couple of weeks, until near the end every 3-4 days if needed). Obviously different people were handling my emails at different times - sometimes they'd respond rude and curtly, sometimes it'd be more of a "So sorry, bear with us, we're working on replacements!" attitude.
Every single time an email promised to do something in the future (later that day, later that week, later that month, whatever), it never, ever happened. It always took me emailing to make the next step finally happen.
Example, from when they finally had the replacement parts in hand:
"Hello Robert, We’ll send this out by the end of day today. We appreciate your patience with us during the changes to our department."
(me, 3 days later):
"Did this get sent Monday? Is there a tracking number?"
(them, the next day):
"Hello Robert, I apologize as We were unable to send this out until this morning as we are shipping our replacements in waves. No Worries, I will provide your tracking detail by the end of day today."
Then they finally sent it.
So yeah - I did finally get my replacement part, but you have to keep on top of it, and keep emailing them constantly. It's pretty clear that they're a middle-man and don't have much (if any) control / power. They tell Bandai of Japan what they need, and hope that it eventually gets sent. There's little to no communication between "I need X part" and them receiving the replacement. They're just as blind as we are during that process, which they tell you to give 2 months to happen.
Pretty sh*tty, but not much you can do (other than don't buy the product, obviously). It's much worse than, say, Third Party Transformer companies, many of whom you can email, send $5 for shipping, and you got a fixed part within a week. But it's better than, say, Takara, who I've never heard of anyone ever getting replacement parts from (you have to go through your seller, and unless it's a decent sized outfit like BBTS, you're probably SOL).

So it looks like seller won't take the return, and I may be out of luck. I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have a spare Sphinx they'd be able to part with?

I bought it off of the Malaysian version of Amazon. The seller offered about a $30 refund, but wouldn't accept a return, so i've logged a dispute and am waiting to see what happens.

Honestly I have an entire original Godmars to where one of the arm bots came with a broken shoulder connection that I've just been displaying as an extra in bot mode for years. If you're in the U.S. I can sell it as a whole set for fairly cheap but you mentioned Malaysia so shipping may just kill it. Let me know but either way I hope that your purchase can be worked out. It's kind of crazy that a site that's like an amazon doesn't have a built in return policy.

Thanks guys! In some unexpected good news, I won my dispute and will be returning it for a full refund shortly. I've ordered a used one off of Mandarake asking them to look at the figures to make sure nothing is broken, so fingers crossed. But I appreciate the offer Kuma!

Hope the Mandarake one came through OK. Japanese collectors tend to keep their stuff very nice, so your chance of scoring a really nice 'used' one is very high. Makes me wonder if Mandarake also has some screening process, and only sell used goods that meet their standard. The few used items I got from them always turn out very nice, even though I generally look for new/sealed copies. Good luck.

Mandarake sell stuff in near mint condition. So if it said opened is probably as new. I bought many items from them and always came in pristine condition (my girlfriend bought some gift from me when she was there also and even when she didn't check the items everything was like new). Take it as a second QC. In fact figures like the this one with so much QC is better to buy them as opened since they check everything. If there is any defect there will be a picture with it or they will list it as "used" (instead of just "opened"), even with a few scratches.
