I paid full price for mine, and I'm not shy to say that I'm a bit disappointed in the GX-88. It's not that it's not an awesome piece; it is. It's not that I'm not glad that Bandai gifted this to us Voltron Collectors; I am. But somehow; after the thrill of the GX-71 Golion; this one just doesn't make the grade for me. I (dare I say it) actually prefer my Miracle Vehicle Voltron more than the GX-88; even with all of it's quality flaws - it just looks better to me..... Anyone else feel this way; or am I the only collector that's a bit disappointed in it?
what are you saying !
first its very unfair to compare an old figure from a humble company to something relatively new from one of the biggest and oldest companies in the market
but if you MUST compare the GX88 is light years ahead from the MP, on every single aspect, quality durability articulation engineering, you name it, the MP was more like bench warmer mainly because they dont have %1 of Bandai might or experience, im not saying its bad but its just incomparable to the GX88
even someone like me who doesn't know the robot or actually care to watch the anime, the GX88 is a piece of art, its on the DX SOC level of perfection and awesomeness, i love Golion more but in terms of figures the GX88 is way better due to complexity of the engineering

Don't get me wrong; I'm not saying that the GX-88 isn't well engineered - it is (although, I wish they had utilized the magnet that MP used for the chest attachment; the clips were a major sore point in the orginal VV back in the 80s)! And I'm certainly not going to compare the MP to the GX-88 in terms of quality; my comparison of the GX-88 and the MP is sole based on my "eye test". The MP - on the shelf - just looks better to me.
Again, I'm not talking about QUAITY - just LOOKS (and I realize that looks is subjective) But that's not taking away from the engineering and well built nature of the GX-88. Not saying that it's not worthy of being a SOC or anything to that effect; I'm glad to own it; and glad that it's in my collection. All I'm saying is that after decades of waiting for Dairugger to be included in the SOC lineup; it just didn't deliver the same way that the GX-71 delivered Golion for me. When I first got and held the GX-71; I smiled and said - now this is worth the 30 years I've waited for this moment. My expectation was that I would have a similar feeling unpacking and holding the GX-88. Hence my disappointment. Maybe it was unreal expectations; but slight disappointment non the less. Anyway; this is the last I'll post on this. But wanted to respond to let everyone know that I DO appreciate the GX-88; and I respect what everyone here is saying about the complex engineering vs the GX-71; and the complexity of the design. I get it.

Every time I look at the GX-88, the look of the forearms bother me.
They should have put a little more engineering in the elbow to forearm connection.

I woud think Miracle Dairugger as a cheaper alternative that u can display as vehicle mode with GX-88.. just like that KO Fantasy Jewel Golion that u can display as lion modes beside GX-71. No need to sell it if u have both.

Hey folks, first time poster. Not sure what the protocol is for that but I'll do a little intro here since this is the figure that started my Chogokin journey.
I found out about this whole sub-genre of collectables through what is likely the most common avenue of approach: doing a search on "what is the best Voltron toy." It was actually on reading about the various iterations of Voltron through this site that I found out about the GX-88. I ended up picking it up and the quality was so outstanding, that it started a whole new quarantine obsession. At this point I have gone on to pick up a Mazinger figure, overpay for a GX-71 and just yesterday, pull the trigger on the new VF-1S. Also, planning on picking up the Pose+ Metal GaoGaiGar, so I am pretty much hooked.
All this to say, from a newbie's perspective, if you have any sort of history with "Vehicle Voltron" or respect for quality engineering, this figure, new and at current prices, just feels like a no-brainer.

I have to admit, Bandai really knocked it out of the park with this one. The range of motion is especially surprising.

Yeah I was just doing some rearranging my collection and notice the leg just falls off easily when I lifted it up. 😛
