Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've visited. Got caught up with Mego collecting, which led to more nonsense. Anyway, I'm a big time Popy Raideen fan and was lucky enough to finally score a First Release Popy GA-09 White Leg version Raideen. But I noticed something odd about his weapons: Both the Bow and the shield are a lighter yellow than the standard custardish color of the common weapons. But even stranger is that the paint scheme on the shield is reversed from the standard. And the red areas on the shield are decals. I've never seen this on any loose or boxed White Leg Raideen. The only image I've ever seen of it is the one on the side of box. The Seller is from Osaka. Any chance this is a Prototype?

I would think that the manufacturers found that the reverse style, stickers, required more manual labor. So in the name of cost cutting, like the white paint, they opted to make it one step from two steps. Then, of course, the paint is longer lasting than stickers so its an improvement.

I agree, but I find it strange that I've never seen another one like mine. Since mine has the same color scheme as its bigger Jumbo Brother, it's also strange that they chose to reverse the colors at some point.

I reviewed the CHOGOKIN book. Here are photos, and your shield isn't shown. Yours is EARLY then..... I'd need other signs of it being a proto. Where did you get it and I assume it was boxed...... E Attachments:

E I bought it on ebay from a Seller in Osaka. He was loose. I didn't even notice the variation on the auction pictures. The same Seller currently has an auction for a Boxed White Leg Raideen, but with the standard weapons. Something else that makes me think this may be a Proto is the fact that when Bandai put out "The Chogokin" Raideen, they gave him the early release white legs, but the standard shield. I would think he would have been given mine, if that's how the first run was made.

Pop on a photo of the feet and back for fun.... thx in advance. Even the face may hold some variations and clues... So, I have this White Leg mystery Raideen, a Boxed "Etarnal" Hero Raideen and two loose ones. Not sure if this helps, since I'm kinda comparing apples to oranges, but this is a side-by-side of the White Leg and the Etarnal. The Etarnal (which looks identical to the other 2 loose ones) is on the right. It's taller than the White Leg, but the Japanese letters just below the screw appear to smaller than the White Leg. Plus the blue in the back of head is a lighter shade on the White Leg. Again, this may be common when comparing a White Leg GA-09 to a common GA-09. I think the weapons may be the only clue to see if it truly is a Proto.

Cool photos, thanks.
In my experience, prototypes have some serious flaws and very distinct hand painting runs/drips/brush marks. -Even hand cut stickers.

Just came across a current listing on ebay for a White Leg GA-09 and it has the same weapons as mine. So, what I have is not a Proto; just a very early release of GA-09.
