As the gokin snob here and perhaps, grumpy old man, I would say, the 5Pro Mekanda is a plastastic non-gattai-ing poseable figure versus a triple-changing GOKIN iconic robot from one of the most famous series -- Macross. And to boot, these iterations by Bandai are arguably the best transforming Valkyries since the Takatoku molds. FWIW, to me, it's not even a decision. If the Mekanda actually combined and etc., sure. But, what's the point of one more non-transforming/combining action figure for the sake of near-splits posing like some figure from Fist of the North Star? It's the same need to pose that has made Transformers into such horrible toys now. Okay, I'm off my e-soapbox. Buy what makes you happy.

The little accessory plane do slot into his back. That's all the combination there is from the show, from what I remember. In terms of which to pick, easy. If the plain Valk is not attractive enough, make it an Armored Valk VF-1J with the GBP-1S that PO just going up on 4/28 (Japan time 4pm)!

I know the initial first batch of VF-1 Super Parts set for this VF-1S has been released and shipped. Does anyone know when the restock is scheduled to ship? I placed my order with Okini-land and although I can't view the listing anymore, I want to say that the second batch was expected by March 2021.

Honestly, the Yamato's 1/48 Fast Packs were better. More removable panels and more inner details. But they are such essential add-ons, it is too hard to skip them, and Bandai knows it too well.

True this! I love my Yamato 1/48 Super/Strike parts and the GBP armor! Same. But as much love as I have for them, they don't age like a fine wine. Plastic can be very brittle (a few joints disintegrated through the years) and those decal stickers don't look too great. But not replacing them with Bandai's per se, only get a few I really like. The Yamatos still the core of my Macross collection, especially the 1/48. The Yamato 1/48 GBP has individual removable missiles. Wonder if Bandai's is going to be the case, but I doubt it (they would have featured it in the promo). Feels like Bandai has the technology and the experience, but Yamato's had heart, but fell short on some aspects.

I only have 2 1/48 Yamato’s. A VF-1J Hikaru and a VF-1S Roy. The bulk of my VF-1 variants are the Yamato/Arcadia 1/60 v2. Although the 1/48’s are a bit flimsy versus the 1/60’s, they were centerpiece of my Macross collection before the Bandai DX’s came out.

Wonder if Arcadia will step up theyre current plastic valk fleet? Im guessing that they still have the license to do it so why not level up with the current DX quality. Its a win win situation for both toy company and will give consumers a chance to choose which one they prefer. Specially to fans who cant catch up with the crazy pre O with Bandai. Its like an xbox vs ps kinda thing.
