“Tokyo based BIGWEST Co. LTD. and Los Angeles based Harmony Gold U.S.A. announced an agreement regarding the worldwide rights for the legendary Macross and Robotech franchises. This expansive agreement signed by both companies on March 1, 2021, ends two decades of disagreements and will allow Big West and Harmony Gold to chart a new path that will unlock the great potential of both the Macross and Robotech franchises worldwide.

The landmark agreement immediately permits worldwide distribution of most of the Macross films and television sequels worldwide, and also confirms that Big West will not oppose the Japanese release of an anticipated upcoming live-action Robotech film. The agreement also recognizes Harmony Gold’s longstanding exclusive license with Tatsunoko for the use of the 41 Macross characters and mecha in the Robotech television series and related merchandise throughout the world excluding Japan.

Moving forward, both parties will cooperate on distribution regarding future Macross and Robotech projects for the benefit of both franchises.”

Finally. I hope finally we can get some of macross manga here in argentina. Robotech left a big mark in people about my age. I learned about macross many years later, but I became a fan also...

This. As far as shows and media, I already own or watched what I want to watch, so doesn't concern me all that much, honestly. Feels like a good news that came way too late.

Not knowing all the internal, personal fussy stuff going on behind the scenes over the years, it always seemed crazy to me that both sides kept cheating themselves out of SO much income, by not getting on with things, and actually cashing in on all the interest in both properties world wide.

Good to hear. This news blurb is spreading like wildfire. Ive had friends that are not anywhere near as tuned into it as forum members, send me the news link, and i haven't heard much about Robotech or Macross products or anime, from them for years. Yet, they picked up on the geek news!

So he had the original casting. Then I think a studio got it, and it got passed to another studio then silence for a while with rumors that it is being worked on still. I hadn't heard anything else during 2020. Just keep it out of Micheal Bay's hands and it might be good if it ever happens.

Based on tf and battleship you know he’d use all the same sound fx as his other movies as well.

Plenty of slo-mo chopper landings and will for sure involve some sort of urban combat for the film's climactic scenes.
