Hello everyone. new to the board, but i've been reading this board for about a year, ever since i really started to get into MICROMAN. Last fall I saw a picture of this guy... ...and i knew we would be happy together. My wife got him for me for christmas. he's great! I do have a question or two for you guys: -about how long (estimated) should i hold my Reissue Cyborg's head under the hair dryer to remove it? saw an older thread here where you recommended using that to heat up the vinyl. Want to try it, but i don't want to damage the figure/my fingers. I once used a heat gun putting together a LeReve 12" MAZINGER Z vinyl and the end result was not so pretty. -is there any recommendations you guys can give to an english website with a comprehensive guide to all things HENSHIN CYBORG? MICROMANFOREVER is great but it doesn't really touch on all the cool stuff i see popping up on ebay all the time. the bike, costumes, etc. Even non-english... i'm feeling the secret base stuff but there's not really a good guide to it (or anybody else whoputs out HC costumes!) so i'm not just buying anything i see that's Cyborg for the sake of "not missing that one of a kind thing that i'll never see again" that is so often what i have to do with Galaxy Express 999/ Captain Harlock stuff. -Where do you East Coast folks shop at now that OUTER LIMITS is shut down for 1+yrs?? Your insight in the past about some of the Microman series has saved me from blowing $100s on things i probably won't like. thanks in advance and much love!

Nice, that's the Henshin Cyborg Re-issue - always a loving and thoughtful present! Very nice photo of him too! Welcome to the world of obscure weird trasparent japanese toys! The head on my HC reissue is pretty soft so i can remove it just wth my hands. If you can squish it without much effort, you should be able to also. THe heating is for figures whose heads are hard in normal temperature, or else if they heads don't seem to come off too easily. The Shonen cyborg boy (pictured below) has a hard head, and needs to get heated. The Jr. Walders have soft heads, but they're hard to remove so they can be heated too. I stick with boiling in water so I don't melt them! You just need to dip them in for a few seconds. I don't know of any good resources for Henshin Cyborg in english. There are some Japanese sites with great photos. Don't have them with me though. In english I only know microforever and mykooltoyz.tripod.com/cyborg.htmlTHis is probably the best place you can go! Maybe someone here should make a list like you're talking about - probably super-Guy Redwing. Here's my HC. I felt his head looked like a roman or greek statue, so I made him a crappy toga.

Welcome, thebigr! Post often, preferably with lovely pictures like that, and rant interminably about Cyborg. As Johnny says, there isn’t really a comprehensive website in English about Henshin Cyborg or Denys Fisher’s Cyborg; more’s the pity. If you’ve any questions about Denys Fisher’s Cyborg, I can hopefully help. I’ve yet to see a really comprehensive list of all the costumes done for the Japanese series. There are certainly too many for you to collect unless you have serious commitment and money. Prices on the vintage stuff seem to be going down a bit recently, though, I think because it’s becoming “passé” to Japanese collectors, and stuff is appearing in the international market that didn’t before. I’m not familiar with your Lereve Mazinger, but if you used a heat gun, rather than a hairdryer, on pretty much anything plastic you’ll destroy it. The fingers are a good guide when using the hairdryer. If you keep them in the vicinity, about the time they start to get uncomfortably hot is when you should stop. The vinyl cools down pretty quick too so you have to act quickly. I recommend you get your figures how you want to display them, heads and masks on or off, and leave them that way.
Nice to see you read Los Bros Hernandez, Johnny. Ever read Burns or Ware?

Thanks guys. I'll give the boiling water a shot.
I have a bunch more pictures of Cyborg doing strange things.
Maybe I'll post a thread sometime when i collect enough unbranded vintage photos- the HC site you suggested is great! Now i can figure out which NHC i want to get.
thanks guys!

No way dude, post you photos RIGHT NOW!!! We all love cyborg photos here, any cyborg photos. And yours looks pretty nice already.
Hypno - I love Charles Burns' Black Hole. Read them all except I can't find #12 anywhere!!
Love the Hernandez bros. The one in the photo is great. Love the luba and her sisters ones the best. Not familliar with Ware though. What do you recommend?

I second that; please post more crazy Cyborg pics immediately, and don’t tantalise us! Actually, I’m the worst culprit here for tantalising.
Okay, Johnny, we’re getting off topic here, but I love the underground comics scene. Chris Ware hides behind the moniker of The Acme Novelty Library and these things hardly look like comics from the outside. I recently picked up a hardcover that reprints the last few issues with enough new material to make me buy it despite having them all. It’s a big red book with gold patterning and a paper band around it with tiny smallprint. It’s the British publication but it’s sure to have an equivalent where you are. It chronicles the lives of, among others, Rusty Brown and Chalky White, who are a pair of sad, middle-aged men who haunt the toy fairs and flea markets looking for vintage action figures. Like all of Ware’s work, it’s acutely depressing and uncannily close to events in my own life. Ware really is the best comics writer ever in my opinion, but it’s not for everyone, certainly not an easy read, and I should warn you it can seriously erode your desire to continue living.
I managed to pick up Black Hole #12 but I have to say, I didn’t feel it tied everything up. I haven’t gone back and read them all together, though. It’s out as a single volume graphic novel now so I’m not sure if you’ll find the last one easily. Have you tried Fantagraphics’ website or Lambiek in Holland?
I also recommend Jim Woodring’s stuff, but again, it’s not for everyone because it’s very, very strange.

Sorry to be off topic as well about comics:
If you liked Burn's BLACK HOLE, try BLOOD RIVER BY MIKE AVON OEMING and BRIAN QUINN- similar art style and bizarre story, came out a few weeks ago in IMAGE comics as a GN. ACME NOVELTY Library is too cool to miss too.

Does anyone know where if anywhere those Henshin Cyborg re-issues are available? They seem to be sold out everywhere. - bigr, where'd your girlfriend pick that one up?
For comics, there is a very weird, and very funny (but not everyone would find it so) obscure 3 issue series called "Clock!". Something to look at. I also enjoy Liberty Meadows, which in it's comic book form is uncensored and hilarious vs the sunday comics watered down version.

johnnyhaggis: my wife got mine (Takara Henshin Collection & Kaijin Collection Series (2003-2004) / HENSHIN COLLECTION CYBORG 1 REISSUE ULTRAMAN VERSION - cyborg is disguised in the box in his ULTRAMAN costume) for about $60-70 at TOYTOKYO store in NYC. There are a few different versions of this figure made over a couple of years: ULTRAMAN, DEVILMAN (UM & DM are both pretty easy to find at $70 or less!), MAZINGER Z (i really want this one, my wife loves Mazinger, but it's a little tougher to find), CASSHERN, MIRRORMAN, and i think a few more...try this link: www.microforever.com/collectionseries.htmit's a really great site. Waiting for my NHC to arrive in the mail, now i gotta get a Walder. My pockets are starting to cry!

Just a reminder... NEO HENSHIN CYBORG - the one i think you want- and those resissues i mentioned above are DIFFERENT. NHC has light up eyes and a slighty slender-er body, completely different scupts.

No I'm not talking Neo Henshin - I mean the one you have pictured - a regular Henshin Cyborg re-issue. Yours came with Ultraman costume, but they also sold them solo. Those are re-issues of the originals which came out in the 1970's.

they did? i was under the assumtion they only sold the reissues with costumes, and that the non-costume ones were NHC or Cyborg 99.
I thought only reissue Walder was sold without costume.

These reissue figures without the costumes were done in very limited numbers, which is why they passed you by, thebigr. I knew they were in the pipeline but I still had trouble securing mine and I ended up paying over the odds for one.

Hypnotator, I think the applicable terminology would best be "imported to the west in comparatively limited numbers." There are still loads of these figures in Japan for anyone willing to pay the costs involved. Sure it can be a real pain in the arse, but everything is constantly for sale on Yahoo Japan.
Cheers, Guy
