has anyone else noticed, or have prices REALLY jumped up on the Denys Fisher Cyborgs-Mutons-Etc. in the last few months? Especially since November?
...and in general, the Walders too?
I've noticed some boxed pieces are really getting up there.
Maybe I'm on eBay too much (i work for a big eBay store) or maybe i'm just lost in my new obession for Cyborg, but some of these prices are crazy for this stuff.
normal, or just n00b wide-eyed amazment?
I've noticed a lot of big$$$$ diecast & other japanese robots have gotten a big price jump too...

i'm not so sure... a few new-toy ebay scalpers in my area - 3 guys who don't know each other- who are only in this to turn a buck have started to show up with Godaikins and other vintage diecast in alarming ##s and alarmingly high prices. They know i recently got into Cyborg and starting asking me a few weeks ago questions like: "so which vintage Henshin Cyborg is worth the most?" "which re-issue is the rarest?" "do you know how to buy on Yahoo japan" and things like that. Mind you, these jerks have no interest in this stuff, they're well known in the area as scalping new sports figures, Star Wars, new Marvel Legends, stuff like that. So when they all seperatly over the course of 2 months start selling vintage diecast and asking J-toy questions it bugs me out a little.
not to be all like "this-is-my-hobby-you're-not-welcome" or else i wouldn't be here too. But alarming that they are trying to focus on this stuff. not cool at all!

I think it's time to make up some stuff for these guys... "yeah, silver neo-henshins are crazily sought after..."

Yeah, thats some scary sh*t. I don't begrudge anyone a living or anything, but I would cringe to think toy dealers who don't know squat about Cyborg would start to pick up on this stuff. If they want to scalp Secret Base stuff or something new like that, more power to 'em.
I recall back in the day when Medicom RAH and RAH220 figures were everywhere for exorbitant prices too. Needless to say I picked up almost all of my RAH220 figures for less than $20 a pop and some for as low as $10/ea from people dying to get rid of the stuff.
I honestly don't see much of a market for Henshin style stuff, or vintage henshin, in the U.S. There are only the small number of us who are into it.

These are scalpers. They DON'T make any REAL profit off of this stuff. They just see RARE or HARD TO FIND and go buy this stuff up. You know, they go to Target or Wal-Mart and buy all the hard-to-find figures like STAR WARS or MARVEL LEGENDS and then put them up on eBay at a premium. Most use their eBay sales to jsutify their own spending habits to loved ones: you know, "Mom, I'll leave the basement and find a job soon, I promise. What do you mean I have to get a job? I sell on eBay!"
I spoke to one today at work. His brother used to collect Godaikins in his teen years, so he sold a T-28 Gigantor MIB for $2,000 and started asking me questions about vintage 80s transformers, chogokin, etc a few months ago.
Today, he brought to the office a few vintage Godakin pieces MIB: a Gardian (my fav!) and a Golion. He was psyched, he paid about $375 for the pair, and thought he was gonna get $2k a piece. So I broke his bubble a bit, saying "you know there are a lot of these out there..." and "they're missing pieces" (they were both complete)
I told him, "look, you're not going to make a dollar of these, dude. nobody wants godaikin anymore. Its all about Sailor Moon, man." he responded, "really?" "oh yeah, it's making a comeback, man!" My boss caught on about this and offered to trade the 2 pieces for a TON of extra SM stuff we had in storage. About $50-75 of dead dead dead stock SM merch and figs for 2 diecasts. I feel so much better now. unfortunately, my boss fell in love with both Godakins (he rarely is interested in any toys for himself) and took them home. so while i didnt get my MIB Gardian (it would have had bad-toy-deal-vibes all over it anyway) i DID deflect another speculator. now for the other 2....

I must say I haven’t noticed a big hike in Denys Fisher Cyborg prices, and I keep an eye on them. I’m still looking for a couple more incomplete ones for dressing up. Boxed figures usually fetch anything from 150 to 300 GBP and loose complete or near complete will fetch 100 GBP or so. It’s been this was for a couple of years. I saw a repro box cheaper than usual recently, which is fair enough because these must be fairly cheap to mass produce once the initial work is done. Incomplete figures have gone up a bit, but then how do you accurately value each missing body part?
Tee hee your tales of misleading other buyers reminds me so much of Rusty Brown and Chalky White – the cruel but accurate portrayal of toy collectors in the Acme Novelty Library comics.

Ha ha, I just recently read those Rusty Brown/Chalky White strips where he bilks his friend out of the mint vintage Joe stuff! Great comics.
Yes, the Denys stuff can go up and down a bit here and there but on average stays about the same. The end of last year seemed to mark a high water in Denys items appearing on EBay though.
Some day I'll get the rest of the Denys stuff I would like to have, but for now I'm more or less content on that front. Concentrating my money, time and effort on the vintage Japanese stuff.
