Is anyone else getting this thing?
And if you are, do you know how or where to get the monochrome version?
I don't normally collect soft vinyl, (I don't have any right now!) but the colors and sculpt on this look amazing. Already ordered one at HLJ, but I'm keenly interested in getting the black and white version as well.

My full-color Gunbuster arrived today. Pics (with cat for scale) to follow at a later date, but for now, Holy crap I love this thing!
60 cm. Aside from a small scratch in the orange paint on the left arm, (super easy to fix), it looks flawless. It's my first large-scale sofubi and it's way more solid and heavy than I was expecting. And, ye gods, SO Much Shelf Presence.
I mean, I haven't actually set up a shelf it will fit on yet, but it's super impressive. Can't look at it without hearing the dramatic drum music that introduced it when it first emerged from the Exelion.
Cheers!

Glad it turned out great. I don't collect large vinyls that much either, but bought the Plex 73cm Ideon a few years back. Unfortunately, that one's quality is not very good. Warped shapes and quite a bit of paint touch up brush strokes you see up close (to correct all the oversprays). Good to hear Kaiyodo did a better job on this Gunbuster. I was thinking of getting it, but decided not to and spend the money on the upcoming CCSToys.

I was thinking of your Ideon when I ordered this thing, but I figured that between Gunbuster's stove-pipe design and Kaiyodo's history with the bot, it would likely turn out okay. Plus, from looking at reviews it seems that their MegaSofvi Evangelion turned out really nice. Judging by the weight and the feel, the pvc is pretty thick. And the legs can rotate a bit at the knee, which, because of the A-stance, has the helpful side effect of letting you smoothly fine-tune how much the figure leans forward or back. Quick pic:
(I swear, someday I'll find a camera so good that it can make up for my utter lack of photog skills.)

Just for fun comparison, you can see some of the rough paint finish on the chest and some panels look warped or 'sunk in' on the arms and legs, when they are supposed to be blocky and flat. But it sure is a great size, so happen to be in perfect 1/144 scale for other Gundam stuff. Cat sold separately.

Whoa! That kitty has familiar coloration :D
Cute pic. Is your cat a Scottish Fold?
I'm not a fan of the extraneous panel lines on that Ideon. But even so, and even including its other faults, it's a really impressive piece. Suitable for an Ide worshiping shrine. :) And extra awesome for being in scale with so much other stuff.
I just recently ordered Kaiyodo's (much smaller) 20 cm Ideon sofubi. I'm desperate for a relatively anime accurate Ideon that can stand on its own, and it's fairly cheap. Can't hurt to give it a shot.

Yeah, its a Scottish Fold, color very close to yours. He is a fun one. Yamato made a pretty decent Ideon figure. All plastic and pretty old, but it can do some nice dynamic poses and has a pretty plain anime look. I like it quite a bit back then. www.collectiondx.com/toy_review/2004/space_runaway_ideon

Passed on it because the sculpt and colors looked a bit off to me, but I might give it another look sometime.
My Kaiyodo "Sofubi Toy Box" Ideon arrived today. The quality is a bit underwhelming. The legs and foot cleavers are a bit warped, and the paint could use some touch-ups here and there. And the Ideo-gauges have an extra line painted on them, making them symmetrical and glaringly inaccurate.
That said, I really dig it. The sculpt and pose are wonderfully evocative of the Ideon that lives in my mind's eye. . . . And after the Soul of Chogokin had all the bells and whistles but turned into a useless rag-doll, it's strangely satisfying to have a simplistic Ideon that looks good from a short distance away and would hold a pose even if I grabbed it by the leg and waved it around with wild abandon.
