Dude's really so into it and having so much fun reviewing and transforming/playing with this new C-01 variant.

Honestly, I am more impressed by the whole packaging and presentation than the actual toy itself. But I think TakaraTomy made a good move releasing this to scratch that nostalgic itch, and at a decent price too (thanks to current yen exchange rate). Not sure if I'll end up with one yet, since I am not a big vintage guy. But something nice to have.

Agreed.
Retro (packaging) is the new cool (Hope they do it for GX-31SP Voltes 50, like they did for DX Voltes).
Really want this, but I still have a Takara Optimus Prime re-issue (I think the numbering was G-0 ?) in a box somewhere. :/

Dammit,I'm increasingly concerned that I'm going to purchase every bot they make in this line.
The toy version of Convoy turned out way better than I expected. As much as I love the added articulation, it's actually a bit down of the list of things I like about it. It looks and feels so much like the G1 toy, (one of my favorite toys ever), but benefits from modern computer aided design, new molds, and great materials. The plastic quality is excellent, and has none of the surface level translucency you would expect from red ABS. Paint apps are near flawless and the vac-metal chrome seems thick and resilient. The fit and tolerances are excellent.
Seriously, when did Takara get this good? Between this and few of the recent premium finish Beast Wars releases, I've been really impressed.
And I thought I was done collecting TFs years ago . . .
I ended up getting the anime Convoy as well, and I'm happy to have both. Excited to see how these minibots turn out.

Now THAT is cool! I only have nostalgia for the red DIAKRON DK-1 Lambo, my first US bought transforming robot back in 83, never liked yellow Sunstreaker as much, as he was viewed as "later" or a KO of the Takara toy, LOL.
I wish I knew who to bother, as it couldn't take too much investment to have a Diakron tribute throwback box printed, as you know they will already have the red toy produced off the mold, with the accessory tray etc. A Diakron relaease would sure please a bunch of us that grew up with it before TFs even came on the scene, and we never knew of the Japanese Diaclone line

I was glad for this thread bump, since it helped me find out that the Convoy/Optimus was getting a second round of release, and so rather than pay the hype fee currently, after missing the first release, I've got a couple C-01's on preorder w BBTS to be released near end of 2024
