Totally forgot about this. Just paid Amiami. Wonder how it will stack against the sentinel which is great.

Totally forgot about this. Just paid Amiami. Wonder how it will stack against the sentinel which is great. Found a photo with side by side comparison. SOC on the left, Riobot on the right. My bet is on Sentinel being the better of the two. The overall proportion is more balanced and more anime, aside the head a tad bit too big and eyes shape a bit off. SOC looks like they try to make it more heroic, but has some weirdness to it, especially on the small thighs and the very boxy knees. It also doesn't have articulated hands like Riobot has. And most of all, Riobot is fully painted (and very nice paint at that), while SOC is a mixed of painted and bare polished plastic (like most SOCs). The finish would be very different in person.

I was going to say, if you have the Sentinel, you'll prolly like it better as it's well, a high-end model/toy. The Sentinel has a more muscular/hulking pose. It's arguable that the SoC iteration is more anime-accurate though.
I haven't opened my SoC but I'm sure it's decent. I don't have the Sentinel.

Don't forget the "THE GATTAI" GL. Not counting the small details, the proportions is surprisingly close to the line art, with the short stubby arms and long legs. I was going to say, if you have the Sentinel, you'll prolly like it better as it's well, a high-end model/toy. The Sentinel has a more muscular/hulking pose. I see what you mean when it comes to anime-accurate proportions. Though if we are basing on the lineart, then both are off in different aspects. But we all know GL doesn't look exactly like the lineart in the show either.

Oh man! I never really paid attention to its details when they announced it. I was hoping for it to be a bit bigger than the Sentinel Riobot since I wanted more detail in the head.

Wao, Who would think that Gurren Lagan should have been the most talked about when it was released in SOC format, however, no one talks about this figure? Not even WOTAFA has done a video review yet...
I mean, i have the sentinel and i do preffer sentinel but i was hoping for more exitement onto this release.

"Been there, done that" could have been a big factor, as most of us already have a favorite GL in some shape or form. Besides, a new SOC release these days are no longer an 'event' like it used to be.

The thing is the SOC doesn't add anything to previous releases, nor surpass them. They arrived late ti the party. To me the best GL is the Konami, I have the CCS (great looking figure with lots of extras and diecast), then the gattai is such a fun and unique release (combining the Gurren brigade is such a GL thing...) and then you have riobot (which in my opinion is directly competing with the SoC and it is better). They took too much time to release it, 4 years ago it would have been a really successful and popular release, but very few people needs or want a GL now...

Bandai died my friend, last true SOC was the GX-88 after that its very underwhelming releases with some having design flaws, in best best case scenario okay releases nothing jaw dropping
companies are catching up and beating Bandai's in their own game, the main selling point for me was the auto rotation drill but then it turned out to be rotating manually
Bandai need to pay attention to more areas other than anime accuracy, like articulation LEDs and and gimmicks other than that they i dont think it will be an easy choice for most of us to justify buying an SOC anymore

okay release not jaw dropping

the GX-100 Daiku Maryu is just a huge size dino mech no LED no friendly way to display it, its cool dont get me wrong but not jaw dropping, while Gaiking is legit beautiful the articulation is very limited, the whole thing went on sale later on if it was as good the price would go up
as for Daitetsujin 17 i know its cool and all but i think Action Toys beat Bandai to it and they did a better robot over all
back in the day when Bandai release a figure it becomes the best figure for the character by default now they are falling behind
and yes im not easily impressed anymore
The drill is huge! And yes, I prefer the sentinel over this. Pretty much everything is done better on it.
thank you for sharing my friend, for me personally i think its a bit off from the promo pics, cant it hold the huge drill by its own or is that stand a must ?

Action Toys' didn't beat GX-101 (most reviews & feedback I heard back then favored SOC). It only has the "Tokusatsu man-in-suit proportions" & size over the SOC, but the build quality is inferior. It was less solid, less well made, and even have some hip or leg joints issue. SOC is also very heavy for its size (though I don't remember which is heavier), has LED and sound gimmick, and all accessories it should come with. So I can't agree with you on this one, my friend. SOC line may not be very likeable these days, but can't dismiss them entirely when they did a great job...once in a blue moon.
