Please help me identify these robots!

I haven't been able to find ANY information on these robots.

I received them as a second-hand gift about 20 years ago. I never saw any packaging for them so I don't know what they're called, but they're stamped with the TAKARA name and the year 1984.

They're little robots, with metal bodies and plastic arms and legs, that stick together like legos. They have accesories that can be attached to them either as armor

...or to make them into little vehicles:


I also have 3 jet-style cockpits (with little removable men inside) that I can use to either make a jet, or I can slide a head out of the back and stick the little robots to it to form a larger robot:

One of the cockpits actually has TWO heads that can slide out, in case I want to build an even larger robot:


Please let me know if you have any more information about these robots, or if you have any suggestions on where I can find out.

They look like Takara's Blockman (Blockmen?) to me.
They ran alongside the Diaclones, and have some very similar and very recognisable Takara features - the articulation is almost identical to the robots in Reflector, and also the legs of Dai Attacker. I've got one (no 04 I think) in his box somewhere. I'll see if I can dig him out...

They seem to be pretty rare (the only one I saw was the one I boughht), but not expensive (I think mine was about $15...) but that's a really nice lot you've got there...
