I found these. I was in a KB toys outlet shop today and I got all 4 that combine to make this for $13. I still really do not get the Micomen figures themselves but if they keep making stuff like this mecha, I might have to start collecting. Teh yseem to be fragile toys though. Two micromen had broken feet out of the package and I was afraid if I pulled too hard on the mecha bits, that I might brake it. I guess since I only display toys, it will be fine. Anyone know of micromen products with mecha like these?

Check out Robotman Dean. He's fairly sturdy and often cheap. He's made up of small vehicles that combine into the big dude. I really like him.

unfortunetly that series had flaws that year... it was very common to have toys with bad ankles. It's rather unforunate because of that I steered cleared of them. I wish they did more "gattai" robots in the new lines.

another combiner from the recent microman line is the acroyear exos. The figures armour becomes little sea creatures and then can combine into a million other things plus the officail combined mode 'acrowyvern' which is cool but maybe to organic for your tastes, kind of like a transformers piranacon of microman world, its very fiddly and not too many QC issue aside from the emperors hips which are usually cracked. www.microforever.com/2005Acrowyvern.htm

I love the ancient Microman line, but for the actual one I like only the mechas.

I just got gun-body on ebay. There was another for the same price. I paid 15+ shipping. I am sure its a heavy mark up over retail, but the only other price I saw it for was $20 + shipping.
I really like the design. The others are ok, but I will only look into them if I can find them cheap.

I got mine today. It was $20 after shipping. I wish it was a little bigger, but its still a cool figure. It reminds me of my favorite Real Tech. I wonder if Transformers used this microman as inspiration.

I got mine today. It was $20 after shipping. I wish it was a little bigger, but its still a cool figure. It reminds me of my favorite Real Tech. I wonder if Transformers used this microman as inspiration. It's the other way around. Both the MagneTitan Gunbody and the Transformers Real Tech are directly inspired by the 1983 Microman Microchange series (which half of Transformers G1 came from). The Real Gear stuff is all a direct homage to MicroChange (and some believe it was originally meant for sale in Japan as part of Microman, not Transformers). Many of Transformers' staff at Takara have also worked on Microman, for that matter, and there are lots of homages and references to Microman and Diaclone in the series well after both lines were shelved in 1985 (and later with the more recent 1999-2000 and 2003-2007 series there has been much cross-referencing). The US release of the Machine Force/Biomachines was notorious for bad quality control on the figures resulting in a lot of figures with broken or weak ankles in-package. The Japanese release didn't have this issue as bad, but as mentioned there were some other occassion figures that suffered from similar problems (Ancient Acroyear Exo's Emperor, MasterForce Automaster Ryan, and a couple of others).

seems reasonable that the TF movie real gear toys were originally designed for microman as they are so unconnected to the movie and make little sense as part of the movie toys, their no doubt that they are more microman than movie toys in terms of their actual look, in fact the design is as far as you can get from the movie look (thankfully, im not a movie bot fan although i do like teh delux jazz toy).

That makes a ton of sense. I've always wondered about the real gear line. It was just so polished and didn't strike me as too movie-like.
