Hello SOCers!
I just got my first SOC so I feel qualified to post here now. He is rather lovely. I think the "ratcheting" of the shoulder and knee joints is the most impressive feature, along with the weight and shininess of the metal, of course. I have two questions:
1. What does OVA mean? Is this a manga series title?
2. What are the "crystal plates" I see on Ebay? Are they an alternative stand for the figure, or some related merchandise?
I may post some pictures of him when I get round to it.

Welcome my friend!
I am relatively new to this world as well.
But I am now hooked on this line and the SOC like robots.
For your OVA question, the OVa means that this Mazinger is based on the Mazinger Version that appeared on the Mazinkaiser DVD Series.

Here a quick answer to your questions ;D 1. OAV means Original Animation Video, so your version is from the Mazinkaiser seven episode DVD like Lanmandragoran said, which I highly recommend you seeing if you haven't yet. 2. Those crystal plates are just bases that you put underneath your regular base. So far I think they were made for the Eva's, Getter Robo G's, and I saw one for Zambot too. P.S You have now been bitten by the SOC bug, there is no cure, you just have to live with it for the rest of your life

That is a very nice buy dude!
The GX-07 rules!
It's probably the one and only SOC among the lot, that can pull off some dynamic poses, without falling on his face or on his butt.
The only gokin that can rival or better the GX-07 in terms of posability, is the Miracle House Shin Getter One.
Congrats on acquisition! ;D

You can also go after the GX-02R Great Maz and the Aoshima mazinkaiser and you will have all the OVA Mazingers.
Also, the SOC Evas have awesome posability and are still relatively easy to get...eva 01 will be rereleased sometime in the next few months.

I'll second what GDomino said about the SOC Evangelions. Whether you're into Neon Genesis, or not these are some great toys. For precision, balance, detail, poseability, and anime accuracy, the Eva's rock! You may as well give up and get them now. Resistance is futile. JWM

It's all down hill from here. Mind you, you will not just post once here, you will be here forever lol, unless Bandai stop.
SOC it is an addiction ;D

Mazinga GX-07 was also my first S.O.C. I'm sure it won't be your last.

What a response! I usually hang out on the Microman/Henshin Cyborg page, but I can see this one is more populated, presumably because the toys are so popular.
By no means will he be my last, but I've no intention of becoming a completist. The number of figures, all the repaints and the high prices prohibit this. I'm not saying they're not worth it. I'm just not that rich.
I do intend to get Poseidon if I can. I have a few other Chogokins (non-SOC; see my collection on the board) but no Poseidon and the SOC one looks nice.
I'm a toy fan, not an anime fan and I try to avoid watching the ones that feature my favourite toys. I watched a Patlabor movie once because I have the models. It was ploppy.
I'll post some pictures soon.

Hypnotator,
I would say that in order to be a completist you would have to be Bill Gates ;D or Donald Trump ;D (The limited edition SOC variants are sooo expensive)
I am not a completist either, I only want one of every mould.
That leads me to a crossroad with the EVAs and GX07.
I already have GX 21 and a GX01RG. I do not feel like spending $$$ on something that is very similar to what I already have.
That is just me, mu 2 cents.

yes. soc gx 07 is really a nice figure. this guy was my first soc figure too and after him i got 24 (all 23 normal verison and one gx 01RG and one GX 05R) more within 2 years. at first the only reason why i got soc 07 was because i won him on ebay for the cheap price of $25 misb. i can't believe GX 07 is selling for $60 to $75 on ebay now. i guess the price of most of the the SoC figures have gone up except for Soc 03, 05, 11, 12 and 17. still can't believe ppl will pay $125 for GX 08 and GX 09 each. and SoC GX 04S is hitting the $300 Mark.

i dont want to disappoint you guys but i have to say this, GX-08 is 130$ before shipping for a MIB one and GX-09 is 150 before shipping for a MIB one. I just sold one of my three GX-09 copies for 152.5$ ,check: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5906523738&ssPageName=STRK:MESO:ITnot only gx-04s, the price of black versions are getting higher and higher and eventually will go over the regular version soon, and the price of GX-06 and GX-02R are getting VERY ridiculous.

Blimey! It looks like I'm going to have to learn all the GX- designations if I want to keep up on this board. I took some pics of my Mazinga last night but didn't have time to get them on a disc - watch this space! Hippy
