From what I know these are the differences.
GX-01R. -Complete re-design from the knees up to make him taller. -Colour of blue is a little darker with metalic flakes. -Chrome arms and thighs with more cylindrical design. -Hover and Jet Pilder (included this time) was re-designed for better detail. -Jet Scrandler was totally re-designed for more detail including slots for his Southern Cross Knives. -Basically GX-01 was Mazinger from the first half of his TV Series, while GX-01R is from the second half where his design was more refined.
GX-02R. -Everything re-designed except for arms, head, and knees down to make him taller. -Chrome thighs and same blue as GX-01R. -Has more neck articulation. -Scramble Dash and Great Booster (attack version changed to flying version) totally redesigned, with extra stored version included. -Also his sword handles are painted and he comes with extra hands for handshake with Mazinger Z.
If you get a chance I would absolutely pick these guys up before their prices get any higher. They are still one of my favorite SOC's with a high amount of diecast, accesories, and playability.

The one on the left is the GX-01R version, you can see along the edge the slots for the knives.

I just recieved the black versions of GX-01 and GX-02 and must say that I was shocked. Since I don't own the regular versions of these I had no idea what to expect. First thing that surprised me was that I had to assemble Maz's arms and fireing mechanism myself. Second the quality of plastics is nowhere near the quality of the re-designed versions. I'm glad that I got them since they look good standing next to GX-04B and those little pewter figures are the main reason I wanted these. But differences from GX-01 to Gx-23 is like night and day, so I whole heartedly recommend you get GX-01R and GX-02R, you will be surprised at the differences.

I just had to assemble the arms on Mazinger Z, also I forgot to mention that I had to assemble the Scrandler too. No big deal, but if you have ever assembled models, whenever you remove a piece from the tree you always get that little of colour spot that I hate. As for GX-01R and GX-02R theres is no assembly like Lanmandragoran said except on Great Mazinger you have to remove the fins and grey leg peices (spikes and blades) but there soft rubber so there pretty easy to remove with an x-acto knife.

Good luck finding any at a (reliable) online store. The Maz re-designs are sold out everyhwhere. Your best bet really is eBay.
I just won one a 01R a few days ago at a pretty decent price ($81 + shipping) so I'm waiting for it to come in. I don't know yet if I want to go after a great Maz since I already have an original version. I'll probably just hold off until a reissue.

I just bought the last gx-01r at toyworkz.com for $100 including shipping a little over a week ago. I cannot wait to get it. I just got my gx-02r last friday (still hiding it from the spouse, hehehe) and I placed him next to my gx-02. The 02r isn't that much more taller than the 02, nothing noticeable unless you look closely but I like it still. Especially that fact that I don't have to assemble anything.

Hey Chen, I'm planning to get a GX-01B Black Mazinger and GX-02B Black Great Maz from another member, and from my toy seller. Can you elaborate a little on the differences between the quality of the material between the "B" and the "R" versions? I'm not really particular about the color schemes, as long as I have something representing my favorite SR's, but I would like to know the quality on these babies (Black), as opposed to the Revisions. Thanks! ;D

Thanks! ;D Just the quality of plastics is superior and more diecast content (thighs were made diecast since the original plastic ones has been known to crack) from the GX-01 to GX-01R. GX-02 too GX-02R the changes are mostly cosmetic, while the GX-01 too GX-01R are more technical. You have to remember that GX-01 was initially designed to be a model kit but became a figure instead but it still retains some of the initial designs like assembly of the arms and firing mechanism. But other than that the figures themselves are really good, with excellent paint jobs and you shouldn't hesitate in getting them. If I had to rate the quality of them, the originals would have "good" quality while the revised ones would have "excellent" quality.

I have a GX-01B and it is great. Only complaint is the chest armor can fall out easily and when using the gattling gun gimmick, the arm falls off easily. I suggest applying a coat of clear nail polish on the arm peg. It now fits very snugly. The plastic is to the Scrander and arms and it's very nice; it's not a shiny smooth plastic, but has a 'textured' feel. Overall, the 01B is a terrific piece to have IMHO.

Got a question now, I just got my gx-02r and you we're right the changes are more cosmetic (I actually like the 02 better). The 02r isn't that much taller either so I'm a bit dissapointed, it wasn't what I was expecting it to be. Now I'm considering selling the 02r since it doesn't do much for me. I have both the 01 and 02 and I have a feeling the 01r (I'm waiting for it to arrive) would be a better keeper than the 02r. What do you guys think, keep or sell the 02r?

If I were you I would keep GX-02R, once your GX-01R comes they will look great together, GX-01R will literally outshine GX-02.
