Howdy folks, when I went to the store today to buy my black and chrome EVAs, I saw Aoshima Mazinkaiser. Now, I've read some things about it, all saying it was good (including the review on Collectiondx.com), but the price seemed a bit too high, it's going for $200 US.
I don't believe it's the Black version, just appears to be the regular one, so I'd like to see what you all think about it... the more info, the better!
I decided not to buy the EVAs just yet and left empty handed (for once!). I promised the guy I'd be back by Friday either for the EVAs or the Mazinkaiser...
So, what are your thoughts about the Aoshima? Get it over the EVAs? Just something cool to have, but not necessary? Your opinions are very valuable to me!

BLK japan version (blk arms/legs, NOT blk oversea version)worths 250$, others worth 125$ or less.
You HAVE TO get one, it looks the best of the best above ALL SOCs.

Man that figure rocks, and it dosent matter what version it is. It is huge and has more diecast than any SOC. If it was between Mazinkaiser or the evas, Maz wins hands down!!!!!

Its cool. But no way is it better than any of the SOCs!Its a great new design but it will never be as cool as the original designs the SOCs are based on!They have better scuplts and better detail. ;D

He is excellent, specially as a complement to my SOC collection. But I fear that the SOC, even Dakiumaryu are superior, albeit only slighty. I love my black EVA, but If you already have another EVA, get the Mazinkaisewr as it is a different bot. If not, then get the EVAs. My two cents.

Thanks for the opinions so far... How poseable is the Mazinkaiser??? I know about the heavy die-cast content and that's alluring, but I want to be able to get some cool poses too... does he just stand there and look ominous, or can he do more? The EVAs appear to be more versatile in that regard and come with more armaments. But I'm thinking Maz can keep Masterpiece Convoy and Jin-Roh company on the top shelf of my computer desk...

Between Evas and Maz get Mazinkaiser.
For poseability, it is poseable but not as poseable as Shin. What limits the poseability is the sheer weight specially if you place the big frinkin wings ;D
The only thing bad about it is the elbows. You have to pull out the arm a bit to show the elbows so you can get better articulation.

That's a tough question, for posability the Eva's win's hands down. But in diecast content theres probably more diecast in Mazinkaiser than four Eva's. In the end Mazinkaiser is a great peice that can stand alongside any SOC's, but it is not a SOC and until Aoshima can put out a consistent line of figures on a regular basis will not have the same recognization as SOC's. I would get the Eva's and wait till you find a Black Wing Mazinkaiser for sale at a resonable price ($200.00 U.S for a regular version is too high).

Get any one while you still can. The Evas are still fairly easy to find anywhere but the MKs are getting rare even on eBay. Who knows? Aoshima has already reissued the toy one and it may never happen again...
I just got a pair (a Kawai Shokai and Int Blackwing) some weeks ago and its been bliss. The heft and looks alone are worth what I paid for them. Articulation isn't that great but that's just fine with me.

I went today again (for the EVAs) and again left empty- handed. The Mazinkaiser, it's the regular edition (with red wings) and with some bargaining, it's going to be very close to $125 US now. He took $100 off the sticker price and is giving me 20% off on top as well.
I don't know what to do.
The chrome and black EVAs look really cool too and he's down to his last ones of those as well. People come and go everyday in that place, he won't hold them for me; Getter Dragon is suddenly gone ($#@%!).
I can't buy them all right away, and after this purchase, it's going to be at least 2 mos before my next big purchase. Help!

Obviously I'm gonna give Mazinkaiser the vote ;D
The evas are pretty cool as well, they are the most posable.
YOu need to get the two Mazingers, and Mazinkaiser. Then I'd get the evas.

i'd give mazinkaiser the vote over the eva but that's just me
i like retro looking super-robots and the diecast content is just overwhelming. the only downsides i can think of is the plastic hip joints i think overtime the legs may fall off as the plastic gets brittle. the upper/ lower legs are all metal and the have a weak plastic joint connecting them to the crotch. and the torbo smashing punch does not work as desired finally the fist connector to the arms are so loose that you need "putty" for them to actually stick
the EVA on the other hand is simply an engineering marvel
with the same diecast content but with great articulation
the only flaw i could point out is that the joints somewhat loose out of the box. that's it.
of course mazinkaser has more presence.
i got both cause they're both fabulous "must have" toys for any collector.

For $125.00 I'd get it, I wouldn't have considered it for $200.00 but that cheaper price is a good deal.

Bottom line it doesn't matter how much/little you pay for it as long as you can justify it. Don't feel that if you pay $150.00 for Mazinkaiser and you see someone else pay $99.00 for it that you got screwed. Too many people have that mentality, we can't go through life worrying if we got the best deal or not.
If you want one, then buy it. I LOVE my Mazinkaiser.

I agree that you should get what you want, although that's if you have the money to spend, but Cedar said his next big purchase won't be for two months. I'm sure if Cedar had the money he would buy all three, but since he doesn't, giving him advice on which ones we would get is the best way for him to decide on how to spend his money and get the most value for his purchase.

I'm gonna sound off on this too: listen to chen - the man knows what he's talking about. Is he worth the $200? Well, more or less (I think that's a fair price at retail)... I think mine was around $160 or so at the time. I wouldn't sell mine for anything though so putting a price on mine is a moot point unless I'm buying home insurance.
I got my Mazinkaiser shortly I watched the first OVA on DVD so my opinion of it was slightly coloured. But even now I look at this monster and it amazes me. For an "upstart" in the figure market, Aoshima really outdid themselves. It's not quite as big as MP-01 Convoy, but with its wings on, it'll hog a lot of room on your desk. I keep mine in the back of a glass cabinet because anywhere else, he'd just obscure the rest of my collection! ;D
Is he posable? Not with those freaking huge wings... I'm afraid of it falling over if I pose him any way but standing straight. But without? Yeah - he's comparable to a typical SOC (Evangelions don't count as "typical").
The only legit complaint I have is his rocket-punch fists. If Aoshima bothered to make a spring-loaded firing mechanism - why make it with such lame springs? These things fire like a tape coming out of your VCR... Not at all the quality "take-your-eye-out" fists on a Bandai SOC.

I'm sure if Cedar had the money he would buy all three, but since he doesn't, giving him advice on which ones we would get is the best way for him to decide on how to spend his money and get the most value for his purchase. I agree totally. My point is more to help him be more comfortable with his purchase regardless of what it is, or how much it cost. In todays world everyone gets hung up on 'the best deal' or getting a better deal then their buddy so they don't look like chumps or foolish, or whatever. Mess on all that! I work in a retail AV HIFI store, and people focus too much on price and not enough on service, quality etc. Because Cedar doesn't have the money to get a SOC but maybe once every few months he may have to pay more to get the 'whole collection' ultimately. I just don't want him to feel like a fool if he pays more then someone else on this forum, SOC's are fun and I want him to enjoy his as much as I enjoy mine, regardless of price. My collection. Thanks for everyone's thoughts and opinions. Fact is, with a house mortgage, a wife on mat leave, a new son, a dog, and minivan payments, chogokins are unfortunately a luxury my family can barely afford due to their high price point. I'm really digging into my 'fun fund' here and have long scraped past the bottom of the barrel. As Chen says, I WOULD buy all three if I could afford it, I really CAN'T. It's frustrating as I never had a hobby I couldn't afford. As to which one I'll buy? Stay tuned for Friday. I have to work all week but the store opens later on Friday.
