Booo!!!! Hissss!!!! Dancouga is still the most impressive SoC ever!!!!! Sure, it has a few flaws, but the overall presence he has in combined form outweighs this by a mile!!! Also, many of the flaws you mention are flaws on all SoCs. I guess we all have differing opinions as you stated at the beginning of the review. Just in this case I'm right, and you're wrong. Bill

Well, you are entitled to like what you like. I won't think any less of you. :-)
If someone were to ask my opinion of the GX-13, that's what i'd tell them.
Just my opinion thats all.

Yeah, if you can live with those flaws, and you have patience, and a steady hand, and lots of extra money that you dont need....
I'm kidding!
But I think bandai could have done a better job, and its far too expensive.
I mean, I am a SOC nut, and I just dont like it.

You're making a mistake, friend. Dancouga is a must-have. Besides, the review wasn't that scathing. Just one man's opinion. Your mileage may vary. Actually it's more than one man's opinion. I also have the same issues with the 2 Dancouga SOC's that I have handled. One even has a bad knee, and two left hands. I agree, Bandai could have done better with this toy.

Actually it's more than one man's opinion. I also have the same issues with the 2 Dancouga SOC's that I have handled. One even has a bad knee, and two left hands. I was referring to the review, which is one man's opinion. Maybe I just got lucky, but mine has very few of the problems mentioned in the review and in your previous message. Dancouga's head stays on perfectly (though the assembly is a bit on the weak side, I agree), both knees are fine, his hands (one right, one left ) have never popped out, the paint on the feet has not chipped even after multiple transformations, and the booster doesn't seem to have effected his balance in my display cabinet. He's housed in a cabinet with heavy 1/4-inch thick sliding glass doors seated in a ball-bearing/track assembly, the sheer weight of which tend to vibrate the glass shelves in the case a bit when moved. He's never budged (wish I could say the same for some of my baseless gashapon...). God knows if the sword will tarnish. I sure hope not. Unless there have been reported cases of it actually happening, however, I don't see how the author can report that it will. This bears watching, especially in light of my recent GX-06M, parts of which appear to have been created in the same manner/process as Dancouga's sword... In short, I belive Cedar should weigh all opinions carefully before coming to a conclusion on a fairly major purchase such as Dancouga.

I honestly think that Dancouga is a MUST BUY for all robot fans, period. Sure it isn't perfect, but either was G1 Optimus Prime.... I am willing to bet this is a future classic. Bill P.S.: Quick quiz- Maxim men's magazine covered one SoC robot in their magazine, claiming it to be the coolest toy ever, what was it? P.P.S.: The answer is.... P.P.P.S: Dancouga! P.P.P.P.S.: They also called it "chick repellant" as well, I guess I got into the wrong hobby.

It is possible that the one I handled was a fluke. But I call it as I see it.
As for the sword, well it's about a year old now and this one had begun to dull significantly.
But like I said, I just report on what what i've held, not what i've heard.
Once again, you have every right to like this toy for your own reasons, as I have reasons not to. If you have been reading my reviews on collectionDX, you know that they are my opinion, and I am never shy from pointing out the good and bad about a toy.
I'm not interested in starting a flame war. I think mayne the difference in opinion may come from where our collecting preferences lie. I like TOYS. Not fragile statues. not puzzles.
Peace...
OH, and regarding maxim - Maxim offering an opinion on a SOC is like Glamour offering a review of a chainsaw. I dont put too much faith into it ;-)

No more hard feelings from anyone, okay? I'll just buy Dancouga! Everyone happy now?
In all seriousness, I'm still interested in Dancouga, but due to his very high price point and the fact that I'm not a super fan of him, he's not high on my list. Currently, I'm buying cheaper toys that cross my path.
Will I ever acquire him? I really don't know. It would be nice to know that you're getting a 'perfect' toy for that kind of money, but seeing that the toy does have some drawbacks and even bigger thing is that I'm not a rabid Dancouga fan, I am a bit reluctant to shell out the bucks at this time. Like Gransazer says, I weigh everything I read and put it all in perspective. Collectiondx gave it a so-so review. Drifand at Toyboxdx pretty much loved this toy, and they were surprised it didn't win Toy of the Year but got voted second place, so I know lots of people love this piece.
The biggest obstacle for me is the price. Knowing that it isn't very stable, that the head doesn't fit too well, these things actually help me 'cos I can decide whether or not I really NEED this guy on my shelf. Seeing the pics of Dancouga's separate components each in their Humaroid forms and baring their surprisingly conventional looking weapons, well that's what keeps tugging at my heart and purse strings. On the other hand, EVERYTHING I've read about GX-04S has been positive and I wouldn't mind putting out the big dollars for this piece. In fact, I sent a friend who was going to Japan on a mission to find it at whatever cost (he failed, but I get the GX-04B instead this Monday, so a nice consolation prize).

As for the sword, well it's about a year old now and this one had begun to dull significantly. Not good. Now I'm really worried about my GX-06M. It is a good thing that you back up your claims with honest-to-god investigation. Writing reviews is a tough game (I devoted the better part of three years writing DVD reviews for my long-dead site, DVD Unleashed; My crowning achievement: the liners for Something Weird's Basket Case. Big deal.). If you're caught once fudging the facts, your credibility is forever tarnished. It's obvious from your copy that you devote a lot of time and energy to the process, which I (and I'm sure a lot of others) appreciate. I'm glad you touched on the subject of opinion. Exactly the target I'm trying to strike, here. Someone interested in investing in the pricey figure should be exposed to views both pro and con. I thought it would be a good thing if Cedar heard from someone who was completely happy with the piece. And as far as a flame war goes, count me out. I found this board only recently and absolutely love everything about it. So many knowledgable people under one roof is a rare thing, indeed. Last thing I want to do is wear out my welcome at a place to which I want to keep coming back.
