I think there was already a thread about this and the general concession was that the Aoshima's (Getter, Neo Getter, Mazinkaiser), the Maxfactory GGGG, plus a few others are right up there with the SOC's.

I don't own any other robot line.. but I find Aoshima's Mazinkaiser a very nice looking robot, but I don't know how many repaints it has or which one is the best... Speaking of Mazinkaiser, do you guys think there are any chances of Bandai producing a SOC version of him, specially knowing there is another badass version of it (Aoshima's) out there? Could that happen in the near future?

Maybe its because I've been on a MMM Strike Gundam high lately; but I think they are the best SOC like toys I have... Good articulation, gimmicks, and pretty decent posability which I think beats out Aoshima's Mazinkaiser or even MP Prime... MP prime is good but it lacks the trailer which makes it second to the MMM Gs.

My favourite gokin is actually Aoshima's Shin Getter Robo 1 and not their Mazinkaiser.... I think once you get past the immense size of Mazinkaiser, you realize that there's not much finesse in his design - just a big hunk of zinc. But Getter is nicely painted, has a decent spring-loaded wings gimmick that WORKS, neat clear parts, and remains decently poseable... And most importantly, he really does blend in with the SoC figures in my shelf.

.... meanie! ;D
I'd have to say MP Prime. I don't have any others, but he's big. Bad. Red. And Blue! Oh yeah, and that transforming gimmick is pretty damn badass...

Wait, wait, wait.... are you trying to say that Aoshima Mazinkaiser isn't a cool piece or just that Aoshima Shin Getter is better? Personally Aoshima Mazinkaiser is cooler than Aoshima Shin Getter Robot, what the heck both are cool. ;D

Could that happen in the near future? There were I think five different versions of Mazinkaiser. -Anime Colours. -Ltd. Metallic. -Kowai Shokai. -Black Wing Overseas -Black Wing Japan. I own the Kowai Shokai version and the Black Wing Overseas version. The Black Wing Japan verion is the most expencive one, but either Black Wing version is awsome and in my opion are the best ones. I don't know if Bandai will make a SOC version of Mazinkaiser, but there is a Maxfactory diecast version based on the video game coming out soon.

Personally Aoshima Mazinkaiser is cooler than Aoshima Shin Getter Robot, what the heck both are cool. ;D Honest - dunno - just side by side, I like the feel of Getter in my hands better. I'm not terribly impressed with Mazinkiaser's joints (especially his arms which are so plasticy compared to the rest of him)... just not a great balance. Granted, Mazinkaiser is a great piece (and very intimidating at the top of my display cabinet).

Well benohki personally I don't like the arms joints too. ;D By the way, hey guys what do you think about the 1/48 Yamato Valkiries? Are better than SOC? I know that doesn't have many die cast parts but are really amazing pieces.

No way dude. 1/48 Yamato Valks are nowhere near the quality of SOC in terms of build quality. But they are nice & solid enough to be fiddled with if you are careful enough. Very nice detail, and a great display piece. But lean more towards the "super pretty but handle with care" type. While most SOC you can handle them without worry too much breaking it. The kind of ratchet joints they have is a big difference. But those Valks are very cool nonetheless.
Favorite non-SOCs:
Aoshima Shin Getter 1 (Better than Mazinkaiser) MP Convoy Panda Z
