What do you guys think of the SOP hover pileder? I've been thinking about getting one, but the price would come to around $60 shipped. Not that much of a mark up considering when it came out, but still kinda painful considering I got Kaneda's bike for $45. Still, I love Mazinger Z and the whole sequence from Mazinger Z rising out of the pool to the Pileder on is incredibly nostalgic for me.

I have the Pileder and Mazingers head. As a combo they are way cool. The Pileder is the cooler of the two though, only because it is diecast. I'd get if if ya can. If will be harder and harder to find in the future.

Yeah, I was waiting on the Pileder before, thinking I'd try to get it at the same time as the head. Unfortunately the head only got more and more expensive to the point that now I'm not even considering it anymore.
Hey, could you tell me how tall the pileder is?

Well, due to its shape HoverPilder is only about an inch and a half tall... maybe two inches counting the tail fin. But with its rotors extended in flying mode, it's a good 5 inches wide (I'm only guestimating by looking at it).
Very old-school piece - I love it.
No real gimmicks to speak of. The rotors fold up into "head mode." and the rotors themselves are free-spinning. And the canopy opens so you can sit Koji into it (Koji's about 2 inches tall)...

Wow, 2 inches including the tail fin? That's a lot smaller than I expected. Thanks for the info.
Well, bought one off an ebay seller in HK. I have a feeling it's going to end up feeling overly expensive, but I bet I'll like it a lot... I hope I will anyway.

Well, for me, it was one of those items that confirmed to me that size isn't everything. It's solid gokin-goodness and very much like the old die-cast toys of the late 70s or early 80s... I'm sure you'll like it too.

I really have nothing bad to say about the pilder. Its got more than enough die-cast, wings fold like the anime, comes with a little pilot removable and articulate pilot. Its more asthetically pleasing than the vintage version @ probably a quarter of the cost, what's not to like. IMO no offence to the " die-hard vintagers"
What more could you ask for.
I'm probaly the only one who wished bandai would do the the exact same thing to the 3 starzinger ships.

Man, mine is in a box, hidden from the evil world. I do think it is a bit taller then 2" maybe 2.5 to 3. I would not hesitate to own it.

I got my Hover Pileder and Mazinger's Head back in 2000 (not too long after they were first released). I am glad I bought these two as the Hover Pileder looks so good that even my sister (who doesn't know anything about chogokin and Mazinger) said it is a beautiful piece. The Mazinger's head is really nothing but a big piece of plastic but I guess they can't exist without one another......must buy them together if possible.

Just my two cents but the hover pilder is NOT 2 inches in size. I dont have one but i've seen pics and its definitely NOT 2 inches. Its a bit bigger than that. Unless you're talking about another pilder.

2 inches? Woah man...that CAN'T be two inches...4, 5 probably, but 2 inches is the size of the Worlds Smallest Transformers...

I also really love my set as well. I have absolutely no regrets in getting them. And everyone is right. The Pilder is significantly cooler than the head. As I mentioned before, the Maz head feels and smells like a Halloween mask. It does light up though... The head looks fantastic from a distance or a photo. The Pilder is awesome through and through... It's almost all metal. The little dude inside is a challenge to get seated. Oh yeah, I purchased both for around $100 + shipping. Go get them both if you can...
