Like most things purshased in these days of a "rising economy" hesitation of purchasing an item can mean much more money later. This hold special true to homes in the SF Bay Area, where the inflation has driven the median price of homes to about $650,000. But this also hold true when it comes to our collectible SOC's.
While surfing around ebay. using the usual search therm "chogokin", I found many things for example Ahprodai A which I picked up last year at a shop in El Cerrito for about $40 which is now on sale on eBay with a buy it now of an average $120. I almost hesitated at $40, but I'm glad I didn't. I also saw GX-04S going for almost $500!
Have you guys noticed this as well? Or am I painting with a very broad paint brush. This also may only hold true to US SOC buyers, I understand that this is an international forum, so it will be cool to see if this is a worldwide issue.

I am in Los Angeles, and yes I have noticed the same thing. I even recall urging prospective buyers here on Robot Japan to expedite their purchase of the new Gaiking. I got the 3 Getters (Dragon, Liger, Poseidon) when they came out and it seemed like in no time at all they went from $60.00 each to $160.00 each.

It is almost an unfortunate, that we need to make the buying decision when the toy is announced and not released in order to get the best price. Unless it turns out to be a dud. Almost forcing us to buy something we wouldn't normally buy had we known before hand all the flaws. Reviews are rendered useless since they aren't usually done until the toy has been released.

I hear ya. I figure that it is best to try to get them when they come out for two reasons.
A. To save the money B. To keep up with the releases.
I am not caught up, I still need 3 of the Mazinger angels and Tetsujin 28. I don't count the Zambot ace, cause personally I think he is the WORST soc made to date, and worth about $15.00 in my eyes.

You guys are right on the money. I found myself trying to play catch up with the SOC's up to this point. Now to save money I just pre-order the new releases that I like. By preordering i know that I will get one at a very good price. Shortly after release most new item go up in price.
Case in point.....I pre-ordered that GX-08W and now I see another string going saying that the sight sold out of them within a couple of hours.
I don't want to take a chance and miss a great toy. I preordered two Gaikings. can't wait.

I don't worry about the trends. If I like it new then I buy it. If I don't purchase a toy new then it must not have been what I really need for my collection.
My suggestion is to buy the toys you love new and put all the other purchases on the back burner. As currencies fluctuate you may find that your "hot toy" cools off in a year to two years.
Ed P.S. A large portion of this rising pricing is the U.S. dollar's erosion in value.
