What the heck? Could it be a SOC prototype?

Do you think it could be from the diecast Hero Collection? Different box, but same sticker.

I dont think so, the ones on the auction looks more skinny and the head and the feet is obviously different.

I have the hero collection, and that's definitely it.

I have the hero collection, and that's definitely it. NO. the paining of hero collection is pretty gross, it is not possible to be that "shiny" under the light. And the feet of the hero collection are kind of flat, where the one on the auction are rounded up.

I'll admit the hero collection's paint normally looks worse, but what can I say, the lighting must be good. Look man, it has EXACTLY the same proportions as the hero collection. Check out the breast fire plates and scrander, both things that look different on pretty much every mazinger z made- they're the same. The scrander is even leaning off to one side the same way the hero collection's one does. It also has the long neck and the weird looking shoulders, and comparing it to that cd, is exactly the same size. If this isn't just a normal hero collection, which I think it probably is, it must be a bootleg of one or a modded one.

I don't think they are the same. The top of the legs on the Mazinger up for auction don't have the 'gap' between the leg and hip/waist.

Ok, I checked up on this thing. It's a limited piece that you could get with a purchase ticket that came with the first releases of a mazinger Z LD set that came out in 1998. This version may have had a higher quality paintjob, but this is definitely at least 90% the same(can't see the head clearly enough on that pic to make a call on it) as the hero collection. I took mine out and put it in exactly the same pose, and it looks identical except for the glossyness.
edit: I see there was also a getter 1 and a getter dragon that you could buy with tickets for their respective sets. I wouldn't be surprised if the great mazinger was available in the same away.

I just asked the seller.
He said this is a statue, which is totally UN-MOVABLE. And even the chest plate/wing are made of metal, other than base this is a pure metal.

I bet they decided it would be a waste to make it only a prize for the people that bought the LDs, so they added the articulation and mass-produced it as the hero collection. It's not too uncommon for specials like that to get released separately in the same form or somewhat modified. They're doing that with the little yamaguchi scopedog from the votoms dvd set, for example.
