why has not bandai released a Jeeg soc yet? this mecha (one of my favorite) has so many accessories, the drill, de centaurus, blah blah and is one of the classics, why did bandai released something so unnecessary as lightarn and not jeeg? no to mention the new jeeg has so many add on too, it would be great to join all the parts with some kind of magnet joins, oh well.....

I'm pretty sure there'll be a SOC Jeeg around the corner. It's just a matter of when, and we all know that Bandai has a penchant for surprises. ;D

Maybe the problem is not the figure itself, but the license to build them.

Bandai has the license unless it has expired but i doubt it.

as in the anime we see that parts from the old and the new Jeeg are interchangeables, it will be cool that the futures toys come with this concept, i hope so.

Actually, I think that the merchandise licensing for JEEG is owned by Takara (everyone remembers the Magemo toy, which became Baron Karza). If this is so, then there will be no Bandai SOC.

If they consider making the original jeeg as an SOC, it would be interesting to see how they will do the head transformation.

Doesn't really matter since there were Yujin and Marmit figures of Jeeg so a SOC version is a possibility plus Jeeg has already popped up in SRW's games which is made by Bandai.

I do own the Marmit FLOSR Jeeg and sold the Yujin toys when I worked at Kimono My House. Now, there is a possibility that Bandai and Marmit may have had to ask Takara permission to produce those items, or those items where not excluded by any contract that Takara may have with Dynamic Productions. (Since Yujin is a subsidiary of Bandai, and not a separate company, their items would fall under a sublicense contract the parent company, Bandai, negotiated.) So, I don't think that fans outside of Japan can definitively say that it "doesn't really matter," because we really don't know if the rights are open for grabs or not, do we? Unless someone wants to look into it, I don't think that we fans can say we know for certain, one way or the other, the parameters of these contracts and licenses. With that being said, I for one would love to see a SOC "Jeeg of Steel"!

They might have been producers of the series as well, which is why they have been able to re-issue the Magnemo so many times over the last thirty years.

True I don't know the exact details of the licenseing agreement Takara has with other companies, but what I do know is that licensing agreements in Japan is quite different than in North America. Half the time it's based on kind of a honour system ( the old 280 hp "limit" on cars) and the other half it's a place where you can get a likeness license for 24 hours and produce action figures based on movie stars. Anyway I'm hoping for a SOC Jeeg big time, I think if Bandai believes there's a big enough market it will find a way to make a deal with Takara to produce a figure.

Yes, I've done some business in Japan (with Tsuburaya Productions, the producers of ULTRAMAN), and will be doing some licensing in the near future with other companies, and I can attest that there are indeed differences in licensing than in the US, which should be self-evident (the US isn't the center of the universe). As I have said previously, I also hope to see Bandai approach Takara and Dynamic Planning/Productions with producing an SOC of Jeeg.

Very true, I just think it makes sense since most SOC's use magnets somewhere on them it would be easy to just go a step further and make a whole figure that's connected by magnets. The only problem would be just how sturdy the connections would be (never owned the Takara version) and if the bean counters and lawyers can come to a agreement ;D.

I think the new agreement should just be a suitcase full of yen. Go Bandai!! ;D
And yeah...I'm wondering about the magnet issue, too.
The panzeroid-horse might be really interesting, though.

The Takara version is so perfect, and at that time capable of such better poses than everything else that was out, nothing was really lost like so many other boxy super robots. It was truly dependent on the magnets and kicks ass, as well as did all the micronauts it's mold spawned (Baron Karza is the Sh!t).
