Is anyone going to ToyFare here in New York? I might try my hand at getting a press pass so that I can enjoy... Hope springs eternal! -E

I've been to toy fare, it SUCKS.
Some tips:
1. Call Bandai, hasbro and any other BIG companies you want to visit. You have to make an appointment, and if you arent big enough, you may not get one. These companies are in their own buildings, not in the javits center. you will get frustrated at being denied entrance to a lot of the things you want to see. bandai is bad with this. you are given a guided tour, and the guide knows nothing about japanese toys, just what they have memorized from the PR material.
2. Yamato toys are great to the fans - find them.
3. wear comfortable shoes.
4. dont pick up every piece of schwag you are offered, because you will be carrying around a lot.
5. It is a mind-numbing experience. It will change the way you view the toy industry. It will leave you feeling dirty, with a bad taste in your mouth. It is not about toys, it is about marketing to children.
6. you probably wont be able to take a lot of pictures.
7. it is worth going, just for the experience. I went, and I dont think I would ever want to go again. I'd say about 10% of the toys there will interest you.
