FIRST EVER ENGLISH LANGUAGE JAPANESE TOY MAGAZINE TO BE RELEASED HALLOWEEN 2002.
Announcing "Super 7: The Magazine of Japanese Toy Culture". The first English language magazine to cover the culture of Japanese live action science fiction and fantasy character toys!
While similar magazines like this exist in Japanese, Super 7 Magazine will be the first magazine of its kind, specifically marketed to an English language audience!
Mark Nagata, who is the Editor for Super 7, has pulled together a veritable "dream team" of Japanese character toy experts and enthusiasts together for the sensational first issue! "We called everyone we knew" said Nagata, "And the response was fantastic! Everyone wanted to be a part of this, so much so we can't fit everything in the first issue!" Nagata continued "Most collectors want to show off their collections, talk about what they know, and this magazine will be the perfect vehicle for that." Of course it helps that most everyone in the Japanese character toy circles knows or knew of Nagata, who has gained international noteriety for his popular "Ultimate Ultraman Toy Collection" website (www.ultramantoys.com), home to the largest online Ultraman toy and figure collection outside of Japan. In keeping with the idea of "Japanese Toy Culture", fellow super collector Brian Flynn is responsible for Super 7's eye-catching layout and logo. In fact you will see numerous "names" in popular art culture who have contributed to this magazine, creating a confluence of art, imagery and information.
The name of the magazine, "Super 7" refers to the seven most dominant characters that inspired toy lines in Japan:
Godzilla, Ultraman, Gamera, Kamen Rider, Kikaida, Great Mazinga and T-28. But there will be a wealth of material on these and so many more characters in the first and future issues!
Like its Japanese counterparts, Super 7 will issue two exclusive mail away vinyl toys! Another first in the US, lucky readers who send in their card can reserve for purchase a Bear Model Glow-In-The-Dark "Hedorah" (limited to 300) from Toho's "Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster" and/or a M1-Go/Club Daikaiju "Gorgo" (limited to 75) from the King Brother's classic of the same name. Both promotions are strictly a "first come-first served" basis. When supplies run out, there will be no more of either of these exclusive figures!
The first issue of Super 7 is slated for a Halloween release. It will be 64 pages plus cover, perfect bound and printed on white offset text. The entire magazine will be color, including advertising and articles. Cover price is TBA.
We will be announcing the details of our distribution a little later this month. If you have any questions or want information about advertising, please contact either Mark Suggs at suggs@super7magazine.com or Mark Nagata, Editor at mark@super7magazine.com.
