Voltron: Defender of the Universe Returns!!

Are any of you Voltron fans? I am. It's the greatest super robot of all time in my opinion. Even by today's standards, the toy is still something impressive. I wasn't too big on the 3rd Dimension series a few years back. It was just too lack-luster.
But the original series is where it's at. Granted, some problems there now in this day and age. But still some viewing. Everything about Voltron was just so striking and powerful. 5 giant metal lions armed to the teeth with weapons. Seeing them run so fast was awe-inspiring. The merge animation, the theme music, the lion heads, the Blazing Sword, it had the whole shebang.
Some of you may be wondering where this 80's property would see a comic. Well, wonder no more as I tell the tale.
April 2002 - last year, a manga-style comic about Voltron was scheduled for release from independent Broken Glass Studios. However, rumoured infighting caused the company to break up, and it was reported that Voltron wasn't one of the license holder's biggest priorities.
Fast-forward to now.
December 2002 - Having experience success with it's G.I. Joe and Micronauts series, Image studio Devil's Due continues their retro recipe for success by obtaining what's arguably the last major 80's license. While a creative team has yet to be confirmed, this new series will focus on the "an favorite" lion version of the defender of the universe. The studio plans to do a total revamp that'll cast the series into a more contemporary light while hopefully paving the way for a new animated series.
"We want to really puch the envelope, and bring a very modern feel to the classic Voltron characters", explains Devil's Due president Josh Blaylock, "but keep the core essence intact. Drama, intrigue, giant monsters and robots. It's like Transformers & Star Wars rolled into one". Voltron is tentatively scheduled to begin in May of 2003.
Incredible news for me and all you other Voltron fans. I expect great things since the G.I. Joe comic is pretty good. G.I. Joe: Frontline is awesome, and Micronauts is holding it's own. And a new anime would be incredible. I was looking forward to making that happen myself, but if the person who beats me to it does a good job, I'll still be happy
I can see the Toonami commercial now: (in Peter Cullen's voice) "Form Blazing Sword!!" or "Go Lion". Very awesome indeed.
