Yup. HLJ's been selling it for a few days now. I like it, but it costs WAAAAAAAY too much.
Honestly, I'm one of those weird robot fanatics who doesn't like too much detail with my toys anyway. I care about quality and attention to detail, but I enjoy the original 1/55 Valkyrie far more than the newer incarnations. I'd rather see some of the other original Valks reissued; especially Strike Valkyrie, Skull Leader, and Max and Miria's VF-1Js.

The Max and Miria have been reissued by Bandai. Check HLJ again, I ordered the set for myself for about $60 per toy. They are superb and FUN! As you said, sometimes there is just too much detail in the robots and they ARE expensive (Yamato's). I'm curious as hell though. -e

Shaxper,
Can you tell many differences between the Takatoku and the newer Bandai Valks? I hear that there is less diecast and I know the stickers are different, but what other changes do you know of?

Now that's funny. I could have sworn I knw what the Bandai Valks looked like, but I must have been thinking of the Yamatos. Honestly, I'm not sure. Maybe they are the same molds. But I never heard anyone refer to them as reissues before. I checked HLJ again, and I can't see any real differences in the pictures. Wish they were a bit cheaper, but what can you do. Ed, you said they had Max and Miria's VF-1Js, but I don't see them.

The Takatoku molds were purchased by Bandai when the the company went under. The molds are the same but the colors may vary. Bandai has recently reissued the classic valks with a few new improvements including: -details printed on instead of stickers. -replaceable heatshields a la Yamato. -the old armor will not fit the arms of the reissues. -paint variations such as the Max and Millia elbows.
there's more but I they are pretty minor.

How cool. I thought the original molds were never going to get reissued precisely because they were sold to several different companies when Takotoku went out. I thought the legal battles were still waging on. Looks like I'm gonna have to get me a Bandai 1/55 Skull Leader, and maybe Max and Miria's VF-1J. Anyone know a place with particularly amazing prices for these guys?

they are not officially reissued outside of Japan because of the contract disputes, but can be easily attained, a la eBay, valkyrie-exchange.com, or specialty stores just as the 1/48 is available. The Bandai Super VF-1S "Skull Leader" retails for an average of USD $85. The rest go for an average of USD $65. With the exception of the of the Max/Millia valks which, as of right now (supposedly), are in limited release because the market in Japan is flooded with valks. They go for about USD $85 average EACH. Tell kevin @ the valkeryie-exchange EXO sent you... he's a nice guy.

Thanks, Exo. I've actually been fortunate enough to find a few for $49.99 (and I've seen Hikaru's VF-1J go for $39.99), so I'll probably go back and get those. Thanks so much for the suggestions though!

Wow. That's a real good price for the VF-1J. I really meant at the most, $65. not average. But I've seen the Hikarus 1Js go for $75. The 1A are going for 35 at the lowest. Also, check out Macrossworld thread, someone is offering the Super for $60 to L.A. based fans under the Models and Toys section. That's a great deal!
