...So what is the real difference is scale size? if i've got some 1/55s, then which would look better, the Yamato 1/60s or the 1/48s? its a tough choice...

I think we used to have a similar thread about this topic, but hell, I'm too lazy to run a search and my work PC has the sh!ts so I'll go ahead and type it. If you're referring to aesthetics[/i] when you ask 'which looks better', I've got to say it's Yamato's 1/48 Valkyries all the way hands down. In terms of detail and accessories, the 1/48 is the best 3D representation of Shoji Kawamori's valkyrie design, TO DATE. You can display the 1/48 in any of it's configurations and they all look great. Again, in terms of aesthetics and detail, the 1/60's come second on my list. Not only because they look good, but it has the most diecast of any VF-1 toy I know. Plus, it's a good option for those with a limited budget. While the removable leg design may turn people off, it's still a good compromise to keep the Fighter mode looking good. The Bandai/Takatoku 1/55's come in third, and Toynami's 1/55 MPC Veritechs comes in last. I chose Bandai and Takatoku's 1/55's simply because it looks more tight in fighter mode (the mode I like to have my Valkyries in) compared to the extremely floppy and brokeback look of the Toynami Veritechs. Here are links to some comparison shots from MW: Fighter Mode: www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/148_sample/148-misc/comparison-fighter-4.jpgwww.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/148_sample/148-misc/comparison-fighter-8.jpgwww.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/148_sample/148-misc/comparison-fighter-10.jpgGerwalk Mode: www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/148_sample/148-misc/comparison-gerwalk-3.jpgwww.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/148_sample/148-misc/comparison-gerwalk-8.jpgwww.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/148_sample/148-misc/comparison-gerwalk-2.jpgBattroid Mode: www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/148_sample/148-misc/battroid-comparison-group-1.jpg

Y'know I'm still not 100% sure I understand what people are referring to when they talk about the "broken"-look of the Toynami Robotech valkyrie... But I will admit - yes, the "backpack" is indeed fairly floppy (mine actually came off at one point and I had to carefully snap it back into place). But in general, I like the look of the Toynami valkyrie (overpriced as it may be) to the original Bandai chunky-monkey.
In response to the original query in this thread, I have to say that nothing really compares to the 1/55 - it's a distinct flavour from the 80's... there's a reason we affectionately call it "chunky monkey." I love it and think it's a great toy but nothing looks particularly good next to it except other vintage 80's DX-styled toys.

i agree with omni 100%, i recently got me a 1/48 1S hikaru colors (my very first macross toy). before getting it i was double minded because of the low diecast content, and instead get a 1/60 or 1/55. but when i got the 1/48, i liked it. it looks better than the 1/60 and 1/55. i was also pleased with the high quality plastic. i'm now thinking of getting more VFs in this scale, if budget permits hehe.

But in general, I like the look of the Toynami valkyrie (overpriced as it may be) to the original Bandai chunky-monkey. The section where the fuselage meets the chestplate (where the fuse recesses under the chestplate) was *ahem* designed after the 1/72 Bandai HCM Valkyrie from the 80's. Unlike the original HCM though, Toynami's fuselage design was a tad small, and the recess area under the chestplate is slightly larger. This is the reason (at least from my observation of the MPC) that it looks like it was stepped on. Also, on the other releases, the connection piece for the front and back chestplates do not interlock properly. This is also what's giving it that *ahem again* "brokeback" look. Disclaimer: I am not implying that the Toynami Veritech is ... ahem... GAY.

I haven't checked the MW links yet. thanks guys.
Ok, let me further explain where i'm going with this: I've got a MPC VF-1S, A few other 1/55 TFs, and a couple busted vintage Bandai 1/55s as well as various banpresto pieces too. I'm getting rid of them all except the MPC, so I can make a nice display with as many of the different fighter types as my budget allows. I'm *very* happy with my MPC, it's super-tight, and it looks good to me in all 3 modes.
I really want to get one of the YAMATO GPB ARMOR SETS, and a Hikaru to go with it. But i've been holding off on getting one until i can really figure out which version will sit nice with the 1/55. I really can't afford ALL 1/48's. I'm willing to splurge on a Yamato Armor Set, a VF-1J, and the VF-0 when it arrives, and maybe the 1/60 Elintseeker if i go the 1/60 route.
I've passed on the 1/60s in the past due to all the negative reviews of them, mostly QC issues. I also am not so psyched that you have to remove the legs to transform. I've passed on 1/48 mostly due to cost, and a few reviews say the plastic used is no better than the Toynami versions. While i'm not super-happy with the QC of Toynami, i really can't deal with QC or plastic that's WORSE than that. And while i like the vintage look, i'm not so psyched about mixing too many vintage valks with what i already have... but if that's what'll satisfy my craving for a GPB set then i'll do what i have to do. sell a kidney or a toe...

If you really want something that will compliment your Toynami Veritechs, then the 1/55 Bandai re-issues are the way to go. The 1/48's will make them look small. But get at the very least 1 Yamato 1/48, and at least a FAST Pack set. Believe it or not, most of those negative reviews were made by overly nitpicky collectors who are making too big a fuss about a design compromise, that in the end made the Valkyrie more anime accurate, more poseable than any of it's predecessors, and contains the highest diecast content of any VF-1 toy ever released. They can't seem to get over the fact that 'at that time' a swingbar system would have not been applicable and may have been very weak due to the size of the toy. The 1/60, durability wise, can stand toe to toe with any chunky monkey. Had my VF-1A Hikaru fall several times from my display table and no damage so far. My GX-02R had a far worse fate when it fell from that same table. Trust me! For someone who's been on a ramen diet just to get the 1/48's the plastic used for the toy is more durable than it actually looks. For the same reasons I stated above, the negative comments about the plastic was just made by someone that's too overly nitpicky. Another proof of it's durability is that one of my 1/48's already took a table dive twice, and aside from the scratch on the chest plate paint, no hairline cracks, stress marks, or broken pieces. You need to get one, to appreciate the materials used. Ask MannyD.

But why there is not a fast pack with Hikaru's colours? The Fast pack i saw is good (in terms of colours) for Roy Focker...

I personally love the Yamato 1/60s (I own like 20 of these things). The detachable legs do not bother me for even a second. The 1/48s are nice toys.

If you're referring to the 1/48 VF-1J Hikaru (TV Version, white with red stripes), it uses the default FAST Pack TV colors (light bluish green). The Hikaru 1J also received the FP giftset treatment.

Hi guys, im a newbie about macross toys, but im a fan of this saga. Im just starting watching the robotech macross saga, and im now im hooked up! I've been planning to get some valkyrie toys now, got a little budget, space, etc. As one of the most popular toy in anime, I dont have one yet (I got some SOCs, gokins, action figs of anime, and my most collection Gundams). So I decided to get some valkyries. I've been thinking of 1/60 valks and yamato got a lot in this scale. Though the legs should be taken off for transformation, its like its bothering me. Can I have some pics how you do that and how it looks like? Also its like you guys saying that 1/48 were not made of any diecast parts? How was the 1/60 valks? Are they good representing the macross collection? Need badly your help guys!!!

Hi guys, im a newbie about macross toys, but im a fan of this saga. Im just starting watching the robotech macross saga, and im now im hooked up! I've been planning to get some valkyrie toys now, got a little budget, space, etc. Hi Vic! Welcome to the wonderful world of Macross! Your addiction starts here. ;D The 1/60 and 1/48 variants that Yamato released basically follow the same pattern, save for the Elinseeker (VE-1), Super Ostrich (VT-1), and the VF-1D. These three are all 2 seaters, and Yamato has not announced anything about recreating these in 1/48 scale. The 1/60's are excellent pieces, IF the removable legs do not bother you too much. Let me say again, that the removable legs are design compromises to make the Valkyrie look more accurate anime wise. The 1/60's are cheap, and have very good diecast content. You can easily find them on eBay or on sale. I believe some online shops are still carrying the line. If you want pics of the 1/60 transformation, lookee here: MW 1/60 Transformation GuideIf you want a detailed review of the 1/48, lookee here: Yamato 1/48 Review**Source: MacrossWorld.Com Hope that helps!

The 1/60's are great but the 1/48 Valk even without much diecast at all is a wonder to behold. NOT cheap but very much worth it.
