Hey all, A friend of mine just sent me this Ebay auc for a RM Monsterous, which they call "Puzzler Fiend". I've never seen this version before, in fact i didnt think there was a Euro RM Monsterous. It seems to be in the Gobot colors instead of MR colors. Too bad! Still kinda cool tho. cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3170500483&category=2662toyworks

For the most part, weren't RMs the same colors as gobots? I know there are a few exceptions(Gunnyr, Twinspin, Throttle), but I thought they were all the same for the most part.

Its kinda hard to say. There seems to be two different "versions" of RoboMachine, one with the Gobot logo (as well as the RM name), and the other just plain "RoboMachine", and there seems to be a mix of Gobot, MR, and RM-exclusive colors between them. I'm pretty sure I've seen MR colors (like white CessnaRobo/Waterwalk) on RM cards, but I think these were the "non-Gobot" version. I think you are right that most RMs had Gobot colors, probably from the "Gobot Version", since thats what most RMs seem to be.

Hi,
I'm Thomas. Some people might know me off the machinerobo Yahoo list.
I can more or less answer your questions about Robo Machine(s)/Gobots, but it's a kinda long and complicated answer.
The gist of it is that Robo Machine started off as an European release of Machine Robo (early packaging has the Japanese names, numbers, and vehicle mode descriptions). Later on Bandai made a deal with Tonka to release Gobots toys in Europe, and Robo Machines 'mutated' into Gobots, with several rather interesting intermediate packaging variants and toy variants.
Then, in 1993, Bandai brought out a toyline called 'Robo Machines' (with an 's'), which saw some toys in their original Japanese color schemes, some toys with new stickers, and some completely new toys that were only released in Japan and Asia previously.
I'm working on a little FAQlet about it.

On Monstrous:
He was released both in a box set, as in separate carded versions. Interesting bit about the packaging: It lacks all mention of the name 'Monstrous'. The individual components do have their name.

Thomas, Thanks for the RoboMachine info! My Gobot knowledge is pretty good, and I'm trying to learn more about MR history, but I dont know very much about RMs. Case in point, I didnt realize they were released as late as 1993! Please let us know when you finish your RM FAQ, I for one would love to read it! toyworks
