I got to buy the MSiA Devil Gundam: Final Form last week. Got it for P999.75 when I dropped by Robinson's in Angles City.
Here's my review!
Box:The box for the Final Devil Gundam is ike any other MSiA Box. It's dimensions are 13L X 3W X7H. Plastic window cover that shows the toy and it's accessories. The back displays the toys with it's modes and weapons.
Standard Figure:The standard Devil Gundam Final Form figure stands about 6 inches tall (6.5 with additional spine attachment included).
The Final Devil Gundam sports a fairly different sculpt for it's upper section (IMO better than it's predecessor), from the first Devil Gundam. This is noticeable withh the larger and longer arms, the immense shoulder armour, back section, and smaller chest area.
The spinal section is also thinner than the first.
The lower section is the strangest part of the Final Devil Gundam. Since the lower section forms the Gundam Head, the crotch area is composed of the face plate, and "chin" of the Gundam head. The massive legs are composed of the side sections of the Gundam Head helmet. The rear skirt forms the top section of the helmet in Gundam Head mode.
Accessories:The Final Devil Gundam comes with two separate fins that compose the "V" fin in Gundam head mode. Additional grappling hands, a spine attachment, 2X shoulder extenders, 8X claw attachments, and the rear skirt.
ModesThe Final Devil Gundam has two additional modes aside from the standard one. These are the "Claw Mode" and the "Gundam Head" mode.
In the
Claw Mode the rear section of the shoulder armour for the Devil Gundam detaches to let you attach the shoulder extension pieces to a couple of ball joint pegs at the back of the shoulder piece, and the detached shoulder piece.
The beam emmiters (yellow cones on the shoulder armour) can be removed and replaced with the Claw attachments.
The front claws are moveable to a certain degree, but the "thumb" part has the most mobility being able to move up and down, and tilt slightly forward and back. Too bad the extension pieces weren't made to bend or at least facilitate movement. The ball joint pegs that they attach to, causes the claws, extension and all, to flop around.
The
Gundam Head mode is by far the wierdest mode a Gundam can have.
The legs bend back and the feet fold to form the side section of the helpmet, and the rear skirt forms the top of the helmet. To form the head completely, you attach the mouthpiece via clamps that attach to the hip joints, then straighten out the plastic fins.
You then add the third spine attachment to the Devil Gundam torso (which is detachable from the lower section by the way), and put him on the ball-joint peg on the Gundam Head.
It looks wierd since he looks like a freakish "Jack-in-the-box" flopping around on top of that head.
PosabilityIn the standard and Claw Mode, the Final Devil Gundam sports some fair articulation, particularly with the arms, head, mid-section.
The huge legs are also quite posable despite their size, and an advantage as well, since it helps keep the toy stable and hold some very nice poses.
In the Gundam Head mode, the only poseable part is the upper torso of the Final Devil Gundam. The head doesn't do much other than look pretty.
OverallThe Final Devil Gundam is an awesome MSiA. It's got great heft, posability, and nice accessories. The sculpt is very nice, and the materials are made well enough that you won't be afraid of breaking anything.
The only cons I can see are the ball joint pegs that were used, particularly for the spinal attachments. The upper section of the toy is heavy, especially in Claw Mode. The pegs arent strong enough to fully support the heft of this toy. In Gundam Head mode, with the claws fully assembled and attached, the toy tends to be floppy and bend too far forward, almost kissing the floor. The claws also cannot be posed nicely because of it's weight.
A plus though, I tried to set the upper torso on the arachnid section of the original Devil Gundam MSiA, and the fool thing FITS!!!
Pics on that form will follow. Haven't had time to scan them yet.
This form of the Devil Gundam gives new meaning to the word "menace!"
It's a very nice piece to have, espeically if you already have the first Devil Gundam. Devil Gundam: Final Form gets a rating of 7.5 out of 10 for me.
