I just watched Mobile Suit Gundam Movie I for the first time last night, and really enjoyed it. The only problems I had were that the story and action often moved to quickly, and that everything felt very choppy. I know that the movies were just spliced together versions of the original episodes (with a significant amount of original material added to the second and third films), so is this pace and choppiness just a product of splicing? Would the original episodes be better to watch?

The movie pretty much gives the best synopsis of the whole series. The series itself may have some slow parts... aside from that, the movies tell the story just as well. However, the case is not the same with the Stardust Memory movies. They suck, but the series was good.

I have the three DVD movie set in the blue box. It has subtitles, but no English. I've watched the series several times through, and on the whole it's excellent. I bought it when Cartoon Network was running Mobile Suit Gundam a few years back. I don't think there was anything significant left out of the movies. I really liked the DVD set. Mobile Suit Gundam was hands down better than Gundam Wing. The story is just as fresh now as it was back in the seventies when it was released. JWM

Yeah, the blue set is what I have, and I was also motivated to get it after catching an episode of mobile suit on Cartoon Network a few years back. It just took me a while to get to it. I've still got the next two movies to go, and then I have the complete War in the Pocket and 8th Division series to get through. I guess I'll hit Stardust Memories after that.
By the way, anyone know if there are plans to bring Zeta and ZZ to the States anytime soon?

Zeta Gundam Boxed Limited Edition DVD set is scheduled to be released later this month. I should be getting this as one of my XMas presents . I love the Universal Century based series such as 0079, 0080, 0083, 08th MS team, Zeta, etc.

Yeah, I've heard Universal Century is definitely Gundam's strongest universe.
Would you suggest watching them in the order they were released or the order in which they're supposed to occur? I know, for example, that War in the Pocket was produced something like ten years after Char's Counterattack, yet it comes before it in the series order. I'd imagine that the animation and style might seem a bit inconsistant.
