Hey I've been lurking around and I read about that "matte topcoat" trick. You know where u spray a topcoat over your gundams to they appear to be painted. Well I did just that, the first 3 of my gundams with DecoArt's acrylic matte finish. Well they turned out pretty sweet.
I got the sprays from the local art store, but it seems that they're running outta that. I don't have access to "official" modeling products like Gunze Sangyo's sprays either.
I was wondering if you guys know any hardware products that is safe be used on a Gundam? Will normal clearcoat sprays gotten from hardware stores work? I'm kinda afraid because the last time I tried painting my 1/144 Ginn with spray paints gotten from the hardware store, the surface of the model sorta melted.
My MG Strike's coming so I'm jumpy. I don't want to leave it with that plastic sheen either. Any help would be much appreciated.

Any acrylic/latex type clearcoat shouldnt hurt the plastic as far as I hace experienced. I have used "hardware store" spray cans without probs. I have also used clear coats made to spray on artwork (drawings, charcoal, paintings, etc. ) which have worked well for me, so you could check the art store or art section. Its better to be safe than sorry though so try it on some of the left over styrene sprues before applying to the kit.

So... I could use hardware brands just so long they're acrylic based? Whew! Thats kinda reliving! Now to see if they have these here. If no heck I'm moving to a bigger town, for the sake of Gundams ;D
Thanks alot!
