What are people's opinion of the Fusion Works (FW) line of Gundam? I've seen a couple and they look rather detailed (still in packaging though). Are they worth getting at all, or because of the small size and lack of poseability do they put people off?

I have a bunch of 'em. They are indeed fairly well detailed, and in some cases I actually prefer the paint-job done on them to my larger Fixes. But they are pretty small and have very very limited poseability (which can result in some of them having a hard time standing up.
But for the price it ain't too bad.
Plus they come with candy! (ok... does anyone EVER actually eat the candy? ^_~)
PS: Another thing to note is that they seem to sell out (and become discontinued) very quickly. I'm super bummed 'cause I missed out on the most recent release (Ultimate Operation Plus Vol 3.) which included some stuff from Char's. T-T

so they do contain candy? from what i've seen of the packaging i could never tell where it was, and whenever i chcek online retailers will warn about eating them, especially for older pieces. i'm so far back in the game, it wouldn't make sense 'collecting' them i think, especially since they are pretty hard to get. the latest line is Fusion Works Mobile Suit Gundam Ultimate Operation Plus 3 right? you already missed it? I can probably get the set (of five) for about 28 without shipping.
where do you usually get yours and how pricey are they?

Heh yeah, a token piece of candy so that the toy can be considered "o-make" for the candy (and so placed in the candy aisle of the Japanese groceries) I guess. I remember when I was a kid, the toy was tiny and the candy was the bulk of the packaging. Now it is very much the opposite ^_^. The toy in the Ultimate Operation series is either a piece of gum (that's right A piece of gum.. as in ONE, single, uno, i-iko), or a piece of powdery candy drop (I think the powdery candy drop is the older version), and is tucked behind the little paper stat card (or metal dog tag in the older versions). The latest one is indeed Ultimate Operation Plus 3 and yeah.. it JUST came out.. which is why I am SO bummed to have missed it. Bummed bummed BUMMED. I usually get mine from www.hlj.com but I don't really remember how pricey they are (since I usually get it as part of a larger order), but that sounds about right. Where will you be getting yours? If you don't mind me hitting up your source, I'd love to get a second source for these things (as back-up in case of something like this).

for some reason, it's pretty hard to find in general. i saw some in a store and i thought they were pretty nice, but later when i tried to find information about it, the internet came up pretty empty ... which was surprising. most of the retailers carry only a handful if any and rarely have any sets. even when searching HLJ, they are only on ultimate operations series 1!
how poseable are the figures? i am guessing that all you can do is move the arms, feet and head just a little. are the guns and swords removable? some packages seem to indicate that.
the big question is whether they are worth it, or should i be saving up my money for fix figurations and hcms?

The HLJ listing only indicates what they have in-stock or expect to get back in-stock. I've already gone back and forth with them a few times on the Plus 3 series and they've told me that they had them, sold out of them, and wouldn't be getting anymore in T_T
Any word on where I might be able to get myhands on the Plus 3?

does hlj get you the complete sets? from what i have seen, they'll sell you a box and it's pretty much up in the air what you'll get right? that doesn't appeal to me, especially since you'll end up with a bunch of extras and probably (knowing my luck!) none fo the ones you wanted!
i sent you a PM. didn't know if it was appropriate to discuss stores and contacts in the main forums.

ah ic. heh just started up in this forum so didn't even think to look for any PM's ^_~
HLJ doesn't sell sets, they sell cases (as you have observed). However with the newer sets, there are fewer variations per set, so you tend to get at least one of each per box (ex: the last one only had 5 variations in a box of 8 so I got one of each, and a few doubles which I am going to use as relatively inexpensive gifts).
I think they are worth it (since they are relatively cheap), but only as an extra... not as a must-have. If I had to choose between a Fix or a UO, I'd defintiely go with the Fix. But I tend to grab UO's in-between Fix releases.

Ha..Ha..Ha.. I've had a funny experience with this figureline. A store near my house was selling them really cheap, although there's only one kind, which is Dozle's customized Zaku. Seeing that the sculpt is so detailed and paint job was awesome, I bought one - to turn it into a keychain! I thought that the joints were exceptionally tight, therefore I only glued the ones that were too loose. After a while, due to one thing and another, it fell apart, one by one, and the only things left is the torso, and the one arm holding the heat hawk that I superglued! Anyway, I thought that these figures are cool, poseability is limited, but very cool nevertheless! Just don't use them as a motorbike keychain if you don't glue each and every part... (BTW, I did't eat the candy!)

you made it into a keychain? this can only mean that you have really really big pockets! aren't they usually more than 3 inches high?

I usually just put the keys on my desk when I'm at work, and slacks have considerable pocket size you know! But, when I'm wearing jeans, I just put the keys in the pocket, and leave the Zaku dangling in my hip!! ;D Sadly, it only lasted for two weeks because I didn't superglue the entire thing together..
