Hi all, Any ideas on how to protect our metallic coated/electroplated models from deteriorating? Do you think car wax would work? Qball

hi qball99, i haven't still tried experimenting with my extra finish HGUCs. i'm planning to spray them with top coat. anyways, here's fichtenfoo's metallic tachikoma- fichtenfoo.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1254he sprayed the metallic finish with an "acrylic base" gloss top coat. i think an acrylic base gloss top coat would do nicely on the metallic plated kits. i'm still searching for an acrylic base gloss top coat in spray can . if i can't find one, tamiya's acrylic gloss clear paint would do. just apply it with an airbrush (thinned with isopropyl alcohol) hope this helps

Errr, if you mean colour vibrance etc...there's only one real way: avoid light. Now that's a dillemma . If you mean physically protect from scratches etc, any clear coat that's hard enough (ie, non water based) will do. Okay, if you painted in enamel for example it is probably wise to coat with acrylic first THEN another layer of clear of a different paint type..But they get thick. Clear coats can somewhat protect the colour fading issues but the clear coat themselves are not immue to radiation bombardment. ie over time they become less and less transparent. Just don't expect kits to look the same forever and ever.

Thanks! Errr, if you mean colour vibrance etc...there's only one real way: avoid light. Now that's a dillemma . Just don't expect kits to look the same forever and ever. I'm not too worried about the fade in color due to light, I'm mainly concerned about the coat deteriorating. I'm assuming this is caused by moisture in the air. It kinda sucks, that you pay a higher price for the limited editions, and they end up killing themselves faster than the standard versions.
