Hi guys, for those of you who does have the metal grade RX-78: I just got this piece and have a few questions Do you notice that the plastic socket to hold the fore arms are cracked/cracking, and is the a common unavoidable occurance with this piece? Mine, is hard to balance, rather unstable, and the clicking joints aren't as strong is this normal for this toy? Does bandai really just include one of those small "crown pegs" to hold the V or did they include extras? Thanks

Hi lurkerX, Honestly I was hoping that it was not something normal for the piece. If you remember, I was the one who purchased mine for very cheap. On mine, both of the arm joints are cracked like yours, and mine is also unstable with loose joints. I figured that the one I have was a display piece, hence the low price and very loose joints. I couldn't complain much because they let me know ahead of time about the missing piece and the loose joints. That and I got it for $75 bucks shipped. But if you are running into the same situation, you now have me very intersted in finding out more information. Where did you purchase yours from, if you don't mind me asking? Thanks qball

Hi Qball, I remember your thread. I purchased mine of ebay recently, the auction said that it was MIB and was just opened for ebay photos, I paid pretty much what it was worth when it was 1st released so my expectations were quite high. I think the cracked forearm sockets are due to the metal pegs used that go into them to attach the forearms, its just too wide. And the way its attached, when you bend the elbows from the forearms it puts additional strain on that particular joint. At least I feel a bit better knowing that it most likely “came that way” [unless someone else responds and say that his doesn’t have the problems ours have.] I was ready to give the guy a negative feedback, but now I guess its not his fault. Its too bad cause it’s a beautiful piece. Thanks for the response

I have two metal grades and I opened one of them to check it out and the left socket on mine is cracked. The right arm is fine with the right amount of tension when removing and installing the forearm and the plastic on the sockets seem to be fairly thick for its size. They probably had a high variance in the tolerance of the sockets and some of them where thicker than others, causing them to crack as the forearms where pushed in during assembly.
I still love both of them and would buy yet another if the price was right, even though it is the floppiest most unstable figure I've ever had my hands on.
So it looks like your figure is normal and yes, you only get one of those pegs to hold the V.
By the way, does anyone on this forum have the guts to apply the decals and pose it with the sabers?

Hi rayar, Thanks for the re-assurance Its funny how it was your Metal Grade's left socket that was cracked. On mine the left socket has a significantly wider crack than the right. The right was more of a "hairline" crack. I was thinking of using "epoxy" [ I tried crazy glue already and that didn't work] to bond the cracks for both arms what do you think? Maybe I should just leave it alone?.....but as it stands I'm even afraid to have the gundam hold its metal gun and metal shield as it may add more pressure to the joint. I don't think I have the guts to apply the original decals [the damn thing just cost too much] What I was thinking though is to get decals from an RX-78 MG 1/100 model kit then apply those

I guess epoxy would work good, and is there a way to totally remove that socket in order to make repair easier? The metal grade does not seem to have a route of disassembly.

you're right I didn't notice a route of disassembly as well and tried the crazy glue repair "on the spot"
but there has to be one I'll check again tonight.
