I have an MMM GQ Blast Impulse Gundam. During my recent moving to a new place the Gundam was boxed, wrapped in a newspaper cushioning to protect from bumps, along with several other DX MSIA Gundam. It was put away in a place where sunlight cannot get to it directly.
Last night, I decided to unwrap the Gundam, and to my astonishment, the plastic parts has yellowed! The other DX MSIA Gundam which has a lot of white plastic parts doesn't turn to yellow, although they were kept in the same box. The only other item which showed partial yellowing was the MMM Strike Gundam's sky grasper, and in both cases, the yellowing is not spread evenly.
Has anybody else experience this? I thought yellowing in white plastic only happen if the toy is exposed to direct sunlight? Or is it just the plastic quality in MMM GQ Gundams that is poor?

I believe heat can be a factor too. But it's odd only the MMM GQ yellowed. I used to own all three, and don't remember the plastic being of any lesser quality than that of the DX MSiA's...

I haven't experienced this problem either with my GQ Blast Impulse. I hope it doesn't happen with heat.

I don't believe heat was an issue, since I stored the box in a fairly cool spot. Besides, the DX MSIA stored in the same place did not yellow.
Is it possible that the newspaper wrapping caused the yellowing? MMM Strike Gundam did not turn yellow, because I have the deactive phase mode version (light blue plastic), but the aile grasper stored nearby (without newspaper wrapping) also showed partial yellowing.

I have faced the similar problem with my both GQ Force Impulse and Sword Impulse Gundams. On the other hand, my both MMM Strike Gundam (active and deactive phase) do not have that problem. They all are kept in the display carbinet of a bedroom. I don't think heat is the cause but believe the quality of the plastic is of an issue.

It is both a good thing and a bad thing to hear about this. Good thing because the problem is not an isolated problem, bad thing because the plastic used in the GQ Gundam is trully crappy. GQ my @$$! I guess the plastic used in DX MSIAs is better than the plastic in GQ gundams. Howcould this be? The DX MSIAs were released almost 5 years ago!
So re-painting the figure is the only way to rectify this problem, then? Taking the armor parts may be a pain, since I installed the screw plugs that came with the figure.

I have my MMM Force Impulse displayed in a display case since I bought it (2 years? I have it when it just come out); and it has not been yellowed yet. I guess putting it into the box will cause the yellowing...

Well, it's some sort of chemical reaction with the plastic. Beware of rubber bands and some kinds of plastic. I had a very old Popy toy with some gashapon minis that reacted with the rubber band causing it to melt. Plastics depending on type can degrade over time--I'm not sure which is the worst offender, but I worry about how long my MSiA's will last. Some plastics also react poorly to some kinds of paints. I tried to repaint a PVC figure once only to find that it began to melt due to reaction with the paint.

topcoating the white parts with clear coat may help.

One of my GQ impluse has had a slightly yellowed right knee armor right out of the box. The rest are fine. I check periodically to see whether the yellowing has gotten worst or whether the rest of the others gain some yellowing. And nothing....save for that initial sightly yellowed right knee everythings white and great. I don't have any issues with my MMM. Except for the metal tarnishing abit. I removed all plastic parts and soaked the metal endoskeleton in WD-40. It fixed it right up

Forgive my ignorance, but what is WD-40? Some sort of metal polish?

Forgive my ignorance, but what is WD-40? Some sort of metal polish? Hi man, its a sort of anti-rust/ lubricant/ cleanser liquid compound widely available here in North America. You may know it by some other name where you live. It really did wonders to my MMM after I soaked it for a week. It even got rid of those stubborn finger prints.

i got a MMM GQ Force Impulse recently (at a good price), and yeah the white armor plastic is kinda yellowing a bit, except the white on the feet and shoulder armor.
it does not bother me too much, but i tried rubbing the white parts with cotton buds dampen with lacquer thinner, stll no effect.
now im thinking of slight sanding them with super fine sandpaper, then topcoating the white parts with clear semi gloss. but not yet, probably sometime.

Beware of flourescent lighting.... it may yellow things. Sometimes the plastic vat doesn't have enough photo-stablilizer in it. That will cause the yellowing. -It stinks Ed

Thanks for the tip, Ed.
So far I haven't experience any yellowing due to fluorescent lighting yet.

Good old free radicals, huh? Free radicals also do damage in our bodies. Makes me think about sun damage to humans. That's why anti-oxidants are touted to be helpful. Interesting that the same advice that applies to people apply to action figures: Avoid the sun.
